Position Summary

With guidance from senior engineers, this role will focus on developing proactive, data‑driven solutions for PG&E. The candidate will analyze electric distribution asset failure data and leverage data engineering, visualization, and trend analysis to support asset strategy decision‑making.

The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience applying asset management principles by supporting the Distribution Overhead Asset Strategy team. This role provides exposure to asset life‑cycle concepts and foundational knowledge of distribution conductors, support structures, transformers, protection equipment, and switching equipment. The candidate will support senior Distribution Engineers by helping evaluate and inform the effectiveness of asset management practices, considering both short‑ and long‑term asset performance and system reliability.

The candidate will support efforts to enhance understanding of asset system failures, threat identification, and outage analysis related to distribution overhead equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining and improving asset failure dashboards and visualizations, as well as analyzing asset management knowledge databases—such as failure modes, technical standards, and asset-specific management practices—to identify emerging risks and recommend system improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Support Asset Failure Analysis (AFA) efforts through data-driven engineering analysis, including asset performance trending, cause evaluation analysis, and other reliability-focused assessments.
  • Support outage and ignition/event reviews by compiling information, conducting preliminary analyses, and documenting findings under the guidance of a senior engineer or supervisor.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical methods to support asset performance, reliability assessments, and failure analysis.
