Department Overview

 

PG&E’s Strategy team leads the development and mobilization of the Company’s ten-year True North Strategy, co-creates and supports strategy and policy initiatives related to long-term decarbonization, develops long-term forecasts for electric load and gas demand, and incubates emerging business opportunities. With PG&E’s core values of serving our planet and delivering for our hometowns at heart, the team assesses industry trends and opportunities, provides internal consulting to support functional area strategy development and performance improvement, and leads high-profile utility initiatives.

 

 

Position Summary

 

The Director, Strategic Services is responsible for developing and managing process and content for emerging strategic business needs. This may include new business case development following identification and assessment of emerging trends or opportunities that may impact PG&E and its customers. This Director will be tasked to incubate high-profile utility initiatives and assess emerging business opportunities.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and manage a team that provides internal consulting support for functional area and enterprise strategy development in order to advance PG&E’s True North Strategy. 
  • Lead a team that assesses cross-functional and line of business-specific industry trends and opportunities, including market/customer shifts, technology disruptions, competitor performance and scenario development.
  • Analyze and develop executive-level materials that explain external trends that may affect the Company’s strategy, identify implications for PG&E, and recommend next steps to manage.
  • Engage cross-functionally across functional areas to identify strategy development and implementation needs and provide support.
  • Scope out new business cases and develop strategic framework, metrics, and tactics for success.
  • Partner with senior leadership and subject matter experts to gather and process information
  • Partner with TNS and System Planning teams to incorporate market, industry, technology and policy trends into strategic planning and strategy updates.

Compensation

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle of the range ($235,000), the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

 

Bay Area Minimum: $174,000

Bay Area Maximum: $296,000

 

 

Background Qualifications

 

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, business administration or job-related field or equivalent related work experience
  • 10 years of relevant work experience with steady progression of responsibilities
  • 4 years of leadership experience

 

Desired

 

  • Master's degree in engineering, economics, business administration or job-related field
  • Utility, energy or regulatory industry experience
  • Management Consulting experience
  • Experience leading and facilitating cross-functional and cross-matrixed teams
  • Knowledge of the utility or energy industry drivers, issues and trends
  • Competency in strategic business planning theories, concepts, practices, methods and techniques
  • Creative and strategic data analysis, benchmarking, monitoring and business/financial analysis skills
