Position Summary
The Director of Compliance Assurance is responsible for leading PG&E’s structured approach to incident management, including investigations, near misses, corrective actions, and internal audits of compliance controls. This role requires strong leadership and technical expertise to ensure that investigations are conducted thoroughly and that corrective actions effectively mitigate future risks. The role partners closely with operations, external/internal investigators, and internal stakeholders to drive a data-driven approach to compliance assurance.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Reporting Relationship
The Director, Compliance Assurance will report into the Senior Director, Electric Risk & Compliance.
Job Responsibilities
- Influences senior leadership regarding strategies for compliance processes, policies, and leading practices, improving company outage and safety metrics as well as construction & maintenance standards to enhance reliability and asset life.
- Oversees the creation and maintenance of electric compliance investigations programs as well as the internal audit activities for program monitoring and governance. Interfaces with various senior leaders and departments to drive ownership for corrective actions influence policy, process, and procedure changes to improve compliance.
- Leads the monitoring and tracking of compliance management and mitigation response functions. Is a proactive strategic partner in helping to achieve 100% compliance. Partners with Compliance Insights and Compliance Excellence Directors to develop strategies for compliance assessment and mitigation across Electric T&D.
- Oversees ownership, monitoring and tracking of Compliance Risk Mitigation Plans, System Safety Action Plans, and Compliance Actions. Establishes and manages streamlined compliance processes to reduce the risk of regulatory penalties.
- Improves Compliance data-driven decision-making capabilities within the team and in the team’s investigative and corrective action work with internal business partners. Models expertise in regulatory reporting platforms, data applications, technology, and tools.
- Oversees the lifecycle of compliance investigations, ensuring rigor and accountability. Leads efforts to investigate non-compliance issues, develop and track strategies for risk mitigation, bringing both business engineering and electric operator expertise and regulatory compliance expertise. Engages in specialized investigations with third-party technical experts.
- Establishes and manages internal audit capabilities focused on root cause analysis and operational expertise and continuous learning. Collaborates with engineering experts and technical teams to ensure the findings are actionable.
- Embeds compliance and regulatory requirements into investigation frameworks. Tracks and ensures implementation and accurate reporting for corrective actions, with a focus on continuous improvement (e.g., Wildfire OII).
- Fosters transparency and alignment among stakeholders, including Legal, Risk, and Operations teams.
- Leads staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, change management, and rewards and recognition. Approximately up to 6 direct reports.

Compensation
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle of the range ($235,000), the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $174,000
Bay Area Maximum: $296,000
Background Qualifications
Minimum
- Bachelor of Science, with a preference for Engineering or a related technical field; or Bachelor of Arts, with a preference for Economics, Public Policy or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
- 10 years of relevant experience.
Desired
- MBA, Master’s Degree or Juris Doctorate.
- Experience leading internal Audit or Quality functions.
- Thorough understanding of electric system operations and knowledge of electric regulatory requirements, state and federal, such as NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation), FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) guidelines and other relevant compliance requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into strategic plans and actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to lead and manage work collaboratively within cross-functional teams including compliance experts, engineers, and IT professionals.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards applicable to electric utilities, such as NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) guidelines and other relevant compliance requirements.
- Expertise in technical investigations, internal audits, and corrective actions.
- Expert root cause analysis skills and ability to analyze complex information to identify trends, correlations, and insights that ensure compliance and improve operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with utility regulatory reporting and compliance related data platforms and tools. Understanding of compliance management and safety concepts, methods and practices.
- Change management knowledge and skill in addition to ability to take initiative and drive results. Strong results-orientated principles.
