System Inspection, Pole Reinforcement plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of California's electric service. We are responsible for reinforcing distribution and transmission poles, ensuring compliance with CA laws and PG&E standards. Position Summary:

The Construction Manager will be responsible for the execution on the Pole Reinforcement Program, System Inspections.  The Construction Manager supports contract adherence, consults on program feasibility and project site details, coordinates with construction crews, oversees project inspectors, and on a project specific basis performs construction oversight.  The incumbent may also prepare job packages and construction estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with contractors, and governing agencies. The Construction Manager ensures projects are completed per company standards, engineering design, regulatory guidelines, permits and schedule.

 

This is a hybrid position, with onsite meetings that may be held in Oakland, San Ramon, Dublin, Stockton, Sacramento, and Rocklin.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​129,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $​207,000.00

 

Responsibilities:

  • Applies advanced knowledge of professional and technical concepts to projects in multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation and electric construction management.
  • Works closely with Project Managers and Electric Operation Supervisors to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects.
  • Compiles and interprets internal technical documents and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes, renegotiates contract scope with contractor when needed. Following start of construction, consults and clarifies technical details for contractors, Electric Operation Supervisors while assisting with change orders if needed.
  • Lead Contract and program management. Compiles internal documents and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes.
  • Interprets, designs, and writes work-specific scope documentation and contributes to the decision-making process related to contract work.
  • Attends job scope walk downs, leads job scope discussions and attends 30/60/90 design reviews by Engineering to provide constructability input. Leads formal job walk downs with Project Managers and/or Electric Operation Supervisors to review the IFC (Issued For Construction) drawings and discuss schedule and target dates.
  • Addresses all communication and project documentation with contractors and conduct meetings at the job site.
  • Monitors daily construction activities and ensures the construction operations meet the program’s safety, quality, cost and schedule goals. Utilizes workload management database, updates any assigned projects, reviews workload analysis reports for action, and manages full planning team process from inception via request for contract.
  • Assists in the pre-construction project cycle, accompanies team on project walks and offer constructability reports when tasked. Coordinates both construction project kick off meetings, PG&Eprocured material deliveries, and meets with governing agencies/ municipalities to manage and enlist compliance with permitting regulations.
  • Acts as point of contact for construction contractors, ensures the contractor’s plan and assigned resources are adequate to deliver the highest value. Obtains any information, resources, services or materials needed to maintain the construction workflow, budget and schedule from Project Coordinator, Engineering, Contracts or other internal PG&E teams.
  • Acts as Incident Commander and PG&E Representative in the field. Ensures contractors follow their approved site-specific safety plans. Enforce project environmental/land permits and PG&E safety rules, regulations, and processes.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of contractor billing, manage accruals, and the close-out of project field records.
  • Oversees work validation of the construction work performed by the contractor to ensure it meets our SOW & technical standards. Coordinates the work with field enhance safety construction team to ensure adequate coverage of all work performed.
  • Communicates any engineering and design issues with Asset Management and Engineering, seeks or makes decisions on any change affecting cost and schedule according to the DOA. Requests PG&E GC field engineer to perform site verification of content of test data and other as-built documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Works with Project Managers to establish planning/schedule dates for construction to commence later in the year, including defining construction targets and pipeline strategies.
  • Support with leading major program initiatives such as system implementation and optimization to drive continuous improvement across construction, financial, and operational processes.
  • Provides mentoring and training to Associate, Career and Senior level employees.

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of experience in the field of Industrial Engineering or Construction
  • Travel approximately 50% with occasional overnight stays

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • 9 years of working experience in the field of Industrial Engineering or Construction
  • Knowledge of Utility Poles
  • Demonstrated abilities in Cost Accounting / Inspection / Contract Administration
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Electric and Transmission Construction
  • Experience with SAP, Visio, and Advance Microsoft Office 365
  • Demonstrated abilities in project or program management inspection and quality control
  • Ability to perform cost and project scheduling
  • Strong people management skills
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate electrical work procedures, process, work methods, standards, policies, and guidelines
  • Demonstrates skill in achieving cooperation from others in order to achieve a goal
  • Ability to lead teams to perform effectively under deadlines and in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of the company’s emergency management processes
  • Ability to lead trainings and coach less experienced employees
