Department Overview

 

Operations Support provides support services to Engineering, Planning & Strategy (EP&S) and Operations organizations guided by best practices and a relentless pursuit for improvement. It delivers accountability for planning, training and support in clerical services, and data, reporting and tools to support Gas and Electric work execution. Operations Support is comprised of approximately 600 coworkers.

 

This position is within the Business Operations & Process Improvement organization, specifically Data Architecture & Tools (DA&T) which supports Gas and Electric Operations with the following functions: Benchmarking, Performance Management, Data Architecture, Reporting & Analytics and Project Governance.

 

Position Summary

 

Function as a Data Engineer within the Data Architecture, Tools & Automation (DATA) organization in Operations Support. Work within RDBMS environment to build and maintain critical data products supporting work execution and performance management. Build, test, and maintain complex queries and procedures. Research data discrepancies and support process improvements to mitigate data quality issues. Provide daily production support by monitoring pipelines and processes and communicating status throughout the process.

 

 

Work with internal DA&T team members and the line of business to gather requirements, problem solve and develop data products. Partner with principal data engineers to maintain code and process documentation. Provide direct line of support to Reporting & Analytics organization as a data liaison and developer. Document data products for BI consumption. Escalates roadblocks through DATA leadership.

 

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

 

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $ 80,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)          $ 120,000.00

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain complex SQL queries and objects. Understand data dependencies and impacts to process chains when deploying code.
  • Research and analyze data discrepancies, ad hoc requests and propose solutions
  • Support daily operations and production processes. Monitor data pipelines through BI reporting end points. Triage with IT partners when delays or errors arise.
  • Coordinate requirements and deliverables with senior team members.
  • Provide timely and professional responses to business partners or user inquiries. Escalate as appropriate.
  • Participate on teams that develop requirements for the business needs solution.
  • Contribute to business case development.
  • Participate in UATs and perform quality reviews of test results.
  • May perform various additional activities, such as user based application testing, scope presentations, user support, etc.
  • Analyze and propose solutions with some supervision.
  • Participate in UATs and perform quality reviews of test results.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

 

  • BA/BS in Business, Engineering, Computer Science/Information Systems, etc. or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of experience in similar or related job functions (Business, IT or Engineering fields) that could be substituted by an advanced degree.
  • Continuous education in IT and business specific areas.

 

 

Desired:

 

  • 3+ years of experience in similar or related job functions (Business or Information Technology) that could be substituted by an advanced degree.
  • 1+ years of demonstrated experience with SQL including complex joins, CTEs, DDL
  • Experience with traditional and cloud RDMBS
  • Detail oriented, analytical, good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about the business requirements process.
  • Participation in projects of high complexity.
  • General understanding of the utility business.
