Pacific Gas & Electric’s Information Technology (IT) Department is a world class organization of Product Managers, Product Owners, System Architects, Software Development Engineers, and Operations professions who invent, ship, and support technology services that enable PG&E to serve our mission to deliver safe, reliable, affordable, and clean energy.

 

IT’s Enterprise Data Analytics & Insights (DA&I) org owns and operates several data software services. One service makes it easy for any data consumer at PG&E to gain access to their data, and rapidly generate operational insights themselves. A second service creates and delivers insights directly to internal customers, who are but not limited to PG&E’s functional areas (FA), e.g., Electric, Gas, and Customer lines of businesses. DA&I’s services help FA operators make decisions in PG&E’s public facing programs such as Public Safety Power Shutoff and Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS).

 

Position Summary

This role serves as a strategic partner working closely with the DA&I leadership team, representing them their absence and driving IT-wide alignment across data strategy, planning, and execution.

 

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build integrated roadmaps and apply Lean Portfolio Management principles to optimize service delivery. They will co-author business cases with FA leaders and technology partners, quantify value through financial and qualitative analysis, and champion change management to ensure adoption and measurable outcomes. Additionally, they will develop reusable capability artifacts and actively participate in governance processes to ensure scalable, compliant, and high-impact investment delivery.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland, CA office approximately 3 days per week, or more, based on business needs.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

Bay Area: $147,000 - 218,900

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Future State Planning & Road Mapping: Collaborate with business and technology partners to plan data strategy & objectives, incorporating regulatory and financial considerations. Develop integrated roadmaps that synchronize business objectives with technology service offerings and timelines.
  • Standards & Governance: Create reusable artifacts that document current and future business and technology capabilities, enabling scalable investment delivery. Actively participate in governance processes as defined by PG&E to ensure alignment and accountability.
  • Portfolio Strategy: co-author and evangelize the enterprise-wide 10-year data strategy, align cross-functional stakeholders around shared metrics and milestones to drive unified execution and long-term value.
  • Portfolio Capability Management: Adopt a Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) framework to manage the team’s portfolio, regularly revisiting and optimizing Services/Feature delivery against the most impactful work. Balance business outcomes against cost and risk to the enterprise.
  • Concept & Business Case Development: Co-develop strategic initiatives and roadmaps in partnership with FA business leaders and technology teams. Author comprehensive business cases that articulate value, feasibility, and alignment with enterprise goals.
  • Value Realization & Change Management: Quantify business value through financial models such as NPV, IRR, and cost-benefit analyses, complemented by qualitative assessments. Partner with FA business process owners to drive adoption of new services, measure realized value, and report performance against committed outcomes. Activities span financial and regulatory analysis, and alignment with technology and enterprise service strategies.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • Experience in business analysis, project management, and/or data product development, 10 years
  • Leadership experience, 3 years
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related degree or equivalent experience.

 

Desired:

 

  • MA/MS degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related degree.
  • Knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards used at large utility companies including Customer, Billing and Meter solutions, and ERP solutions for Utility Operations.
  • Experience leading Business Architecture function at a utility company or related industry.
  • Ability to understand the big picture context of Business Architecture and to visualize the activity patterns and/or connections in a complex business process that are typically hidden in the details.
  • Knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards used at large utility companies including Customer, Billing and Meter solutions, and ERP solutions for Utility Operations and Power Generation systems.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software evaluation principles and Ability to evaluate products and conduct proof-of concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to tailor communication to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills with the ability to mediate between the business and technology domains.
  • Ability to present ideas in user and/or developer friendly languages.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
