Department Overview


The Facility Integrity Management Program and Technical Services (FIMP&TS) is responsible for all Compression & Processing (C&P) and Measurement & Pressure Control (M&C) Asset Families for Gas Transmission Stations.

 

Position Summary:
This role oversees all engineering activities for compressor station and transmission station assets in the Needles, CA area, including maintenance and overhauls of reciprocating compressors and generators, technical support, engineering design and reviews, and lifecycle asset management. The position supports projects from planning through commissioning, ensures safe and reliable operations, and contributes to gas safety and asset integrity. It requires a strong mechanical background and a self-directed, proactive approach.

 

The position headquarters will be at Hinkley Compressor Station, near Barstow, CA or Topock Compressor Station, near Needles, CA. The headquarter preference is Topock Compressor Station. The expectation is that you live relatively close to either location.

If headquartered at Hinkley Compressor Station, near Barstow, CA, the position will require approximately 50% of travel time in work schedule. 
If headquartered at Topock Compressor Station, near Needles, CA, the position will require approximately 10% of travel time in the work schedule.

 

Position duties may include but are not limited to-

•    Safety: Be an advocate for safety and lead by example. Incorporate safety into designs, construction and M&O activities. Ensure that safe practices and procedures are communicated, incorporated and followed in all activities.
•    Maintenance & Operations Engineering Support: This role serves as the asset owner for gas transmission facilities, providing guidance, mentoring, and technical support to field personnel and engineers. This includes improving maintenance practices, assessing equipment condition, ensuring safety and compliance and/or overseeing engineering studies needed to maintain or enhance safety and reliability. Assist and collaborate with the field personnel to investigate, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment or system problems related to performance, operating and/or safety problems and recommend repairs. Perform inspection/investigation/failure analysis, calculations, engineering design and/or review of repairs or modification, recommend equipment that is not replacement in kind, recommend tests or engineering studies and provide engineering for small projects. Support equipment and facility outages, including outage planning, outage scope definition and support during the outages, such as unit overhauls, inspections, and commissioning.
•    Project Support: Prepare long-range forecasts for expense work and capital investments. Work with field personnel to identify highest priority work, develop budgetary estimates, and project scopes for budget submittals. Work closely with project managers and project engineers to ensure that the facilities will meet appropriate requirements. Provide engineering review and input on conceptual designs, design reviews, calculations, and engineering and construction documents. Interface with contractors, engineering, and field personnel to facilitate resolving technical issues. Lead PG&E effort during start-up and commissioning.
•    Code Compliance: Support M&O field personnel to achieve full compliance with pipeline safety codes and regulations. Review designs and provide technical guidance for code interpretation and compliance. Implement department code compliance initiatives that require engineering support.
•    Solve complex problems by developing and utilizing new and innovative engineering design and technical solutions
•    Lead teams from multiple organizations and/or vendors for system, programmatic or complex repairs, investigations or other efforts
•    Expand knowledge in other areas of specialty or discipline
•    Evaluate methodologies, best practices, tools, processes, procedures and technology assessing potential fit, benefits, and impacts for assigned workstreams
•    Present engineering research, findings, solutions and recommendations to Leadership
•    Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in a specific discipline, field or area of expertise to resolve complex problems
•    Completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards and assignments that require integration of information from a variety of sources
•    Takes ownership of problems and their solutions

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.


PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:
California Minimum: $129,000
California Maximum: $220,000


This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

•    Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations, and educates PG&E employees and/or industry personnel


Qualifications-
Minimum Qualifications:  
•    BS Engineering or equivalent experience 
•    Seven (7) years of relevant experience
Desired Qualifications:
•    Oil or Gas Transmission experience, design, maintenance, construction and/or operations
•    Natural Gas Compressor Station Experience
•    Reciprocating & Centrifugal Compressor and Generator Experience
•    Professional Engineer (PE) license
•    MS Engineering
•    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Desired
•    Able to work independently with guidance on only the most complex projects
•    Advanced written and verbal communication and presentation skills
•    Has a solid understanding of the asset functions including threats and risks for their workstream with ability to predict unforeseen outcomes
•    Ability to organize and present information and recommendations to various leaders
•    Expert Knowledge of applicable engineering principles, codes, regulations, policies and procedures related to the industry and PG&E
•    Creativity and innovation skills
•    Ability to translate strategy into specific plans and action
