Position Summary

Telecommunications Equipment Installer performs but is not necessarily limited to the following: Installing, retiring, or removing telecommunications equipment. Works as an assistant to or under the general supervision of a qualified Technician to install, test, and maintain telecommunications systems.

 

The position is a General Construction position and individuals must be able to travel and transfer to a new headquarters upon request at any time; throughout the entire PG&E service territory with no guarantees as to how long you will be away from home.

 

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates.​

 

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate for this position is $48.04, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Installs, retires or removes telecommunications equipment including: Cable and wire terminations and testing, Equipment racks, Equipment shelves, Seismic and support bracing, Wire DC Power Distribution, Telephone and telephone key equipment.
  • Assists a Telecommunications Technician install, test, retire, or remove the following equipment: mobile and microwave radios with antennas and transmission lines, data, telemetry and supervisory systems, dial exchanges, multi-plex, alarm systems, fiber optic systems, and battery and charging systems.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds a minimum of one time a day
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to work with and/or around helicopters, bucket trucks and substations.
  • Must be able to climb towers and be comfortable with heights
  • Able and willing to perform physical activities as mentioned in the job posting (with accommodation, if required)
  • Able and willing to work in, with and around water
  • Work around poison oak, snakes, spiders, and insects.

 

Desired:

  • Record of Residence within 50 miles of job description location
  • Possess a valid Radio Telephone Operator License - FCC or Company-approved certificate.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in IT, Computer Science or Electronics
  • Possess communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated work experience/knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to foster teamwork, collaborative environment.
  • Military experience
  • Ability to work effectively without constant supervision or guidance.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • SCADA & Substation Experience
  • Technical training background
