Department Overview

The Electric Transmission Engineering organization delivers safe, reliable, and cost-effective transmission projects and maintenance design work for PG&E’s transmission system. Engineering Support & Order Management plays a critical role in enabling engineering teams by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of engineering orders, work requests, documentation, and system transactions that support project delivery and field execution.

 

The Engineering Support & Order Management team is responsible for:

  • Engineering order creation, tracking, and closure
  • Work management and system transactions supporting engineering and construction activities
  • Document control, routing, and records management
  • Coordination between Engineering, Construction, Maintenance, and external partners
  • Schedule, quality, and compliance support for engineering deliverables
  • Data accuracy across engineering and work management systems

 

Position Summary

The Supervisor, Engineering Support & Order Management leads a team of Engineering Assistants and Clerks responsible for order management and administrative engineering support for transmission engineering teams. This role is accountable for ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, on time, and in compliance with applicable standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.

 

The Supervisor is responsible for:

  1. Managing workload, staffing, and priorities to meet engineering project schedules and commitments
  2. Ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness of engineering orders, documentation, and system data
  3. Developing and monitoring performance metrics such as cycle time, backlog, quality, and rework
  4. Driving continuous improvement in processes, tools, and workflows supporting engineering delivery
  5. Partnering closely with Engineering Supervisors, Project Managers, Construction, and Operations to align support activities with business needs

 

This role serves as a key integration point between engineering execution and operational systems, helping engineering teams focus on technical work while ensuring downstream readiness for construction and maintenance.

 

The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)            $114,000.00

Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)        $148,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $182,000.00

 

Minimum Base Salary (California)         $108,000.00

Mid Base Salary (California)      $141,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (California)        $173,000.00

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and supervises Engineering Assistants and Clerks, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance management
  • Manages assignment and prioritization of engineering orders and support activities to meet project schedules and service level expectations
  • Ensures accurate and timely creation, tracking, updating, and closure of engineering-related orders in applicable systems
  • Establishes and enforces quality standards, work instructions, and compliance requirements for order management and documentation
  • Develops, tracks, and reports key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, backlog, quality, and schedule attainment
  • Identifies process gaps, inefficiencies, and risks; leads continuous improvement initiatives to improve speed, quality, and reliability
  • Coordinates with Engineering Supervisors, Project Managers, Construction, Maintenance, and external partners to resolve issues and improve handoffs
  • Supports change management, training, and implementation of new tools, processes, or system enhancements
  • Assists in resource planning and workload forecasting to support current and future engineering demand
  • Ensures adherence to safety, regulatory, and internal compliance requirements

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED
  • 5 years of related experience in one or more of the following areas: service planning, construction, mapping and/or a leadership type role.

 

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Utility experience supporting engineering, construction, or transmission/distribution operations
  • Experience with order management, work management systems, or document control processes
  • PMP - Project Management Certificate 
  • Strong leadership skills to form and lead teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering support and order management processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience developing and tracking performance
