Position Summary

This position will directly supervise a team of Project Controls Analysts, a work group that is wholly represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) Union. The work group is responsible for managing Electric Transmission / Distribution/ Generation Substation and Transmission Line projects throughout PG&E’s California’s South areas of the service territory. Total annual project portfolio can range from $120 - $250 million. This position will report to the Transmission & Substation South Project Controls Senior Manager and will be headquartered in Fresno (location Flexible). The projects supported will be primarily in the Transmission/Substation Line South Region. The successful candidate will help Transmission & Substation Project and Portfolio Management attain its vision of being the leading project management organization in the utility industry by leveraging one’s exceptional leadership and technical skills.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)            $144,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)        $194,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $244,000.00

 

  • Minimum Base Salary (California)         $137,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (California)      $184,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (California)        $232,000.00

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • 6 years total relevant experience in: technical project management, and/or program management in the utility industry, and/or business management in the utility industry OR 3 years supervisory experience of project management, engineering and/or construction of Transmission/Distribution projects.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) 

 

Desired:

  • Supervisory experience, preferably in Project Controls or Project Management.
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong background in project controls processes and procedures with ability to train others.
  • Strong MS Excel, SAP and Primavera P6 skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in driving work progress and improving work processes.
  • Understands how to motivate, develop and direct teams as they work.
  • Demonstrates a strong focus on customer service and employee engagement.
  • Good analytical and strategic decision-making ability.
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating and managing contracts for engineering, procurement, construction services, and professional services.
  • Electric transmission/distribution substation and transmission line system knowledge.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certified.
  • Knowledge of Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) Union Contract.

 

Responsibilities

  • Live the PG&E Values. Lead by example and drive culture change within Transmission, Substation and M&C team with effective communications and actions that will enable PG&E to become the leading Utility in the United States.
  • Supervise approximately ten ESC Project Controls Analysts and Contractors.
  • Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and coaching, and rewards and recognition.
  • Ensure that the portfolio of assigned projects is managed such that all projects are safely designed and constructed on time, on budget, on scope, and without adverse environmental/ other regulatory impacts.
  • Ensure forecasted project portfolio costs are accurate and in alignment with annual and project budget targets.
  • Proactively identify and resolve project issues to ensure that projects meet overall cost, scope and schedule commitments. Work to remove hurdles and obstacles that are impacting achievement of project or departmental objectives
  • Attend project site visits.
  • Work directly with Project Management organization to understand scopes of projects and make fair and balanced Project Controls Analyst assignments that are a good fit to each Project Controls Analyst's skills.
  • Coach, develop, and support Project Controls Analysts to improve project management capabilities and to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Establish and manage specific Project Controls Analyst expectations, metrics, and tracking tools to measure performance.
  • Maintain a strong, high morale team of professional Project Controls Analysts.
  • Manage data request responses on time and thoroughly
  • Work with Project Control Analyst Supervisors from Electric Transmission / Distribution Substation, Transmission Line and other groups to effectively manage and improve the overall group’s operations and processes.
  • Must contribute on special assignments that help improve the entire work group performance as well as support Electric Operations initiatives to improve company standards and processes.
