Department Overview

 

The hardworking coworkers of Electric Engineering ensure all manners of electric engineering—including electric standards and process safety, electric design engineering, instrumentation testing and controls, undergrounding, electric regulatory compliance and electric investment planning—are in place to safely enable a strategic and stable workplan for our Electric Operations partners. Our organization is accountable for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution and delivery of all electric engineering projects. Electric Engineering is comprised of approximately 2,000 coworkers.

 

Position Summary

 

This entry-level position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity.

 

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate range for this position is $39.62 to $56.78, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

 

Job Responsibilities

As an engineering assistant, you will be the vital link between the company and widespread interconnection of generation, increase in capacity demand (residential, commercial and industrial) and system reliability improvements in California. Your role will be to work alongside with our EIT program team members in preparing, supporting, and delivering of EIT courses, planning for onboarding new EIT cohorts, and supporting the department continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Accomplish the department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents.
  • Foster teamwork, innovation and embrace new approaches to accomplish our work more efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop and maintain automation tools, forms, and templates utilizing Microsoft 365 office suites and any other productivity application, such as Adobe or Bluebeam pdf editors, to improve engineering and design processes and training deliveries.
  • Able to extract data from various system databases, such as SAP or SQL, and SharePoint lists used to generate reports, in Excel, or display on dashboards, like Power BI.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining SharePoint sites, utility standards, procedures, job aids, and drawings relating to T&S Engineering and Design, and EIT program.
  • Support EIT course and training delivery by managing group mailboxes and calendars, taking notes, collecting feedback through surveys, and helping with action planning to promote ongoing program improvement.
  • Assist engineers and designers in delivery of high-quality design products on budget and on time.
  • Support other team members in Transmission and Substation designs.
  • Work with and learn from other departments involved in Transmission and Substations such as Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, Transmission and Distribution Planning, Standards, Protection, Automation, etc.
  • This position is a hybrid position and will be required to show up in office at the discretion of the hiring leader. Travel is expected 10% of the time within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or its equivalent in technical education and experience

 

 Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering/Science
  • 3 years of clerical or administrative support experience
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 application suites, SharePoint, Power App, Power Automate, PowerPoints, Access, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Ability to understand written technical standards and to communicate readily with others, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to prepare complex forms, reports, records and reference data, including statistical records and computations required for reports and audits
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
