Department Overview

The Metering Services and Engineering Department (MS&E) is responsible for the efficient management of 5 million electric meters and 4 million gas meters.  It is accountable for ensuring safe, accurate and reliable meters and is part of the cross-functional team that delivers safe and reliable gas and electricity and provides accurate bills to our Customers. This department’s objectives are achieved through strategic and operational meter asset planning, management, meter specifications, troubleshooting, repair, regulatory compliance, meter information support, and a focus on continuous improvement.

 

Position Summary

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.

 

An employee who is regularly assigned to work at a System Test and Repair Facility and who tests, calibrates, and performs repairs on all types of electric meters and associated equipment in the facility. Works as an assistant to Metering Electronics Technician when required.

 

This position is from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. 

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. ​

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate range for this position is $52.42 to $60.32, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

 

Responsibilities:

  • May perform task of a shop utility worker
  • Sort various meters by Materials & Supplies (M&S) codes sent in throughout the system; places sorted meters in the designated large containers; moves larger containers by using forklift.
  • Enter M&S codes into computer, place condemned meter into hopper for disposal, and move pallets of material with walk behind forklift/pallet jack
  • Clean meters and cover by submerging in solution, spraying, brushing, wiping and blow-drying to remove any debris.
  • Attend various on and off-site meetings.
  • Performs Quality Assurance Testing on all new Electric meters and Metering Transformers using test equipment.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds a minimum of one time a day  
  • Ability and willingness to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) ) including but not limited to chemical resistant latex gloves, nitrile disposable gloves, leather work gloves, safety glasses, safety spectacles, long pants, and sturdy leather closed toed shoes, insect repellant, sunscreen, and disposable respirator (dust mask)
  • Ability to walk behind forklift, pallet jack, hand truck, test board, screwdriver, air tools, computer, and other hand tools
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on an as needed basis

 

Desired:

  • Electrical/electronic degree or certification
  • Manufacturing/production experience
  • Electrical experience
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, File Explorer, and Barcode Scanning)
