The Electric Engineering team ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Engineering is responsible for PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

 

This job is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.    

 

The Insulation Tester will work under the direction of a Senior Insulation Tester at the headquarters in Emeryville. The Insulation Tester will visually inspect and electrically test Lineman protective equipment. This equipment shall include, but will not be limited to blankets, gloves, hoods, jumpers and hoses.  This is a physically demanding job.  `  

 

Work schedule:  9/80 Schedule. Monday-Friday 6:00a-3:30p.  Every other Friday off.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity.

 

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate for this position is $44.54, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.​

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Inspects and tests Lineman protective equipment (this will include, but not be limited to blankets, gloves, hoods, jumpers and hoses.)
  • Highly physical job involving requiring lifting, hauling, moving and standing on feet all day long
  • Work with a small staff in a confined environment daily
  • Operating test equipment at 40,000 volts
  • The use and wear of protective equipment is mandatory
  • May need to make field visits on occasions   
  • Modify schedules as necessary; ensuring that the proper work is completed as planned
  • Consistently meet measured and monitored deadlines that play a large role in enabling PG&E to meet monthly compliance requirements and targets
  • Maintain customer focus by being organized, detailed and able to work in a team
  • Work performed is subject to quality and quantity audits by Supervision and the Shop Lead
  • Work overtime based on work load/business needs
  • Operate a fork lift and manual pallet jack.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain one by first day of employment
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Fire-Retardant Clothing
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a physical environment with physically repetitive movements

 

Desired:

  • Prior experience as an Insulation Tester
  • Prior experience working in a warehouse environment, stock room or trade background
  • Forklift Operator and/or experience previous operating a forklift    
  • Must be able to work in an environment with deadlines and time constraints
  • Must be able to get along well with a small group in a confined environment
  • Strong attention to detail
