Department Overview
The hardworking coworkers of Electric Engineering ensure all manners of electric engineering—including electric standards and process safety, electric design engineering, instrumentation testing and controls, undergrounding, electric regulatory compliance and electric investment planning—are in place to safely enable a strategic and stable workplan for our Electric Operations partners. Our organization is accountable for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution and delivery of all electric engineering projects. Electric Engineering is comprised of approximately 2,000 coworkers.
Position Summary
This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.
This is a senior-level engineer responsible for leading engineering and design of complex projects and implementing programs required to modernize the electric grid allowing for safe, resilient and efficient operations. This position will include participating in a cross functional team of internal and consulting participants being tasked with leading the transition of a project from development and testing to being operational for each phase of each project.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business needs. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
The annual salary range is:
CA Minimum, $153,828
CA Maximum, $197,628
Responsibilities
- Manage large complex projects and perform engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs
- Lead, coach, direct, and assist technical employees and teams on technical issues. May act as an engineering mentor.
- Assist in finalizing contract project specification and technical evaluation of contract project bids.
- Evaluate substation configurations to identify reliability risks, including single points of failure and bus design vulnerabilities
- Resolves problems of complex scope. Assignments may provide an opportunity for creative or non-standard approaches. Under general direction, independently plans work to meet assigned general objectives. Work may be reviewed upon completion; solution may provide an opportunity for creative/non-standard approaches.
- Recommend design and configuration improvements to reduce outage exposure
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to implement reliability-driven design changes
- Partner with testing and field teams to interpret inspection and diagnostic results and assess reliability risk
- External contacts are with contractors, vendors and local public agencies with ministerial authority. Internal contacts are with clients, project team members, and company management. May provide technical direction to less experienced team members. Exchanges information and solves problems with others outside the team.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US
- 8 years of experience in electrical engineering and design
Desired:
- Experience in large-scale, large-budget electric substation projects
- Experience in substation engineering
- Skilled in project management
- Active California PE license
