Department Overview

Electric Operations ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

The Quality Management organization is made up of over 300 coworkers and contractors that help ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to approximately 16 million people throughout a 70,000 square-mile service area in northern and central California. The organization is accountable for the company's program to underground 10,000 miles of electric distribution lines to reduce wildfire risk, the System Inspection Program to identify potential risks to the safety and reliability of the system, and Maintenance & Construction Programs ensure safe and reliable delivery of electricity. The Quality Management Planning & Improvement (P&I) team supports the organization to meet or exceed established operational targets, including compliance requirements, KPIs, budget, and risk reduction strategies that support the company’s Purpose, Virtutes and Stands.

 

Position Summary

The Operations Data Analyst extracts operations data for analysis, leadership support and responses to ad hoc data requests. The incumbent maintains operations tools & databases ensuring that it is kept up-to-date using data from various PG&E systems.  Develops, maintains and enhances operational metric database tools for the broader analytics team(s). The Analyst identifies and solves current gaps in data requirements and ease of access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries.

  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Manages data management projects from initial request to presenting data results ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on-time.
  • DATA PROCESSING: Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing.
  • DATA EXTRACTS AND FILE TRANSFERS: Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts.
  • DATA ANALYSIS: Analyzes data using various statistical tools to develop ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. Position requires ability to report to San Ramon as needed.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

Bay Minimum: $122,000
Bay Maximum: $194,000

CA Minimum: $116,000
CA Maximum: $184,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manages complex data analysis projects with limited supervision on only the most complex projects from initial request to presenting data results ensuring that the project is completed successfully.
  • Designs data analysis to achieve business objectives, process data, analyze data, write clear and concise data findings and tailor communications to specific audiences. Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing.
  • Manages very complex data extracts and list pulls ensuring data accuracy. Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts
  • Analyzes data using various advanced statistical tools to develop complex ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles.
  • Demonstrates and utilizes broad expertise in data processing and data analysis and applies this knowledge to a number of different issues.
  • Provides new and innovative solutions and recommendations to enhance database(s) with new data sources and improved data processes.
  • Develops comprehensive reports and communicates clear, concise and actionable data analysis for clients.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and provides directions to less experienced employees.
  • Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering or other related field or equivalent work experience 
  • Job-related experience, 6 years

 

Desired:

 

  • Masters Degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with utility operations.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA)
  • Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects
  • Advanced skill in UNIX shell programming (csh, awk, sed, vi).
  • Strong knowledge of base-SAS and programming language such as Python.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Influence skills.
  • Advanced project management skills to lead cross functional teams.
