Department Overview

The work performed by the Corporate Security Department (CSD) is key to the company’s success in protecting employees, the contract workforce, the public, and the company’s physical assets, including several which are critical to the nation’s power grid infrastructure. The CSD provides a variety of opportunities, including involvement in developing, communicating, and implementing processes and tools relating to investigations, formal communications with company officers, personnel development, and coordination of the company’s physical security efforts. Importance is placed on developing close partnerships with other Lines of Businesses and law enforcement, to ensure quick response and appropriate communication of issues and mitigation plans.

 

Security Investigators work closely with the company’s Security Control Center, which provides around the clock monitoring of PG&E facility alarms and security camera systems. Security Investigators also work closely with CSD’s team of Physical Security Specialists, and with a large force of contract security officers assigned to numerous PG&E facilities. Security Investigators assist each other in conducting investigations as needed.

 

Position Summary

The Security Investigator (Senior Level) will perform investigations pertaining to threats and assaults against PG&E and contractor personnel who perform Electrical Operations work on behalf of PG&E.  Additionally, the investigator can be asked to perform the full spectrum of investigations which include employee misconduct, workplace violence, and substance abuse. 

 

The successful candidate will be able to operate independently. They will have established effective relationships with law enforcement in the assigned area and be able to quickly develop additional relationships with other government agencies and community organizations. This individual will also be expected to establish necessary liaison relationships at PG&E facilities in the assigned area, as well as develop a working familiarity with PG&E’s business and physical infrastructure.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. 

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

 

California: $97,000​ - 137,500

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Provide physical security for Electric Operations work crews in the field.
  • Negotiate with hostile customers and landowners to allow access to PG&E equipment.
  • Obtain intelligence information to help keep employees, contractors and customers safe.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement agencies on local, state, and federal levels.
  • Conduct thorough employee misconduct investigations and concisely document results.
  • Provide training in workplace violence prevention and personal safety protection.
  • Investigate crime scenes with investigative expertise.
  • Be available 24/7 to respond to security incidents.
  • Be available to supplement the security assignments throughout the enterprise.
  • Be available to respond to natural disaster incidents, such as wildfires and earthquakes, and have a working knowledge of the Incident Command System.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • Experience in law enforcement, investigative, 8 years
  • CCW-Concealed Carry Weapon license, California
  • CA Class C License, or equivalent
  • Must be able to qualify for NERC/CIP clearance

 

Desired:

 

  • BA/BS degree in Criminology, Police Science, Criminal Justice Administration
  • Ability to complete and/or oversee a comprehensive investigation
  • Ability to author a comprehensive report of investigation
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, perform and communicate activities in written and verbal form
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to communicate with various levels of bargaining units and management employees
  • Ability to manage a caseload and to prioritize the immediate needs of business clients
  • Proactive self-starter and the flexibility to support the Security Investigations team
  • Ability to self-manage time and workload to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a separate security program for which the Corporate Security department has lead responsibility
