Department Overview

Electric Transmission & Distribution ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Electric Transmission & Distribution Team is responsible for ensuring the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through the ongoing maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of Transmission lines. Coworkers in Electric Transmission & Distribution actively engage in the Lean Methodology through the use of visual management in operating reviews to cross-functionally identify and solve problems, and create standard work. By working together as One Electric. One Team. We are delivering for our hometowns. Electric Transmission & Distribution is comprised of approximately 6,500 coworkers.

 

Position Summary

Provides engineering, testing and analysis services and expertise across multiple disciplines to various company organizations to identify, diagnose and solve technical problems. Provides consultation to clients to proactively avoid future problems. Conducts inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on a wide variety of systems and components. Partners with management to create bid proposals for requested client work.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $​155,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​265,000

 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Mentor and direct a team or teams of engineers and engineering technicians with diverse backgrounds.
  • Operates as a consultant with strong communication and marketing skills to interface, advise on operational risk and challenges, handle the more sensitive issues and concerns, solve complex problems and influence operational decision-making with and for our clients.
  • Identifies new technologies, innovations and cost-reduction opportunities.  Conceives and investigates new areas; contributes new designs and techniques regarded as major advances in the company or industry.
  • Leads and manages projects and programs independently which includes developing and executing on innovative, novel, and complex solutions with high financial impact to PG&E and/or the client by taking ownership of scope, schedule, budget and communications.
  • Provides leadership and expertise in developing new standards, codes, guidelines, polices, techniques, procedures in PG&E technical services.  Utilizes a broad business understanding to solve the most complex problems in creative ways, ensuring solutions consider both short and long term business impact.
  • Successfully balances project management, marketing, engineering, cross collaborating with varying discipline engineers while functioning in the consultant billable hours business model.
  • Leads project teams in the performance of tests and the preparation of technical reports and specifications.  Prepares and delivers presentations and recommendations based on project results/findings, advice and expertise, frequently to senior leadership. Capable of adjusting message for variety of audiences from field operations to senior leadership
  • Is the authority in one discipline or type of ATS service and offers breadth of knowledge and performs analysis and execute projects across several disciplines and functional areas to include developing test plans and procedures from scratch as well as applying expertise to successfully function in lab, field, and desktop applications.
  • Represents PG&E and provides testimony or information related to projects or other issues to external customers, agencies or other parties.
  • Recognized outside the company as an authority on a particular engineering/technical field or discipline.  Represents PG&E and speaks at conferences or seminars.  May write articles in trade journals. Influences industry developments.
  • Develops, prepares and presents findings, conclusions and recommendations to senior leadership using a broader perspective, knowledge of the business and understanding of longer term implications to the client.
  • Oversees assembly of technical systems and prototypes according to engineering standards and knowledge of related principles.
  • Interfaces with clients, handling the more sensitive issues, to understand expectations, concerns and ensure strong customer satisfaction. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments. (i.e., mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, etc.)
  • Job-related experience, 10 years

Desired:

  • Masters Degree or equivalent experience
  • PE-Professional Engineer license
  • Travel required; frequency depends on assignment (10% -75%).
