Applied Technology Services (ATS) is a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technicians.  ATS has been providing technology-based, innovative, high-value services to the company for over 35 years.

 

The Instrument Calibration and Repair (IC&R) team provides quality calibration and repair services for a wide variety of equipment in use throughout PG&E.  The services include measuring and test equipment testing, calibration, and repairs. The unit has 'Primary and Secondary Standards' capabilities in several areas including AC and DC voltage, current, resistance, temperature, pressure, airflow, dimensional, time and frequency.

 

Position Summary

 

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

 

The Engineering Technician II, Calibration is responsible for performing calibration activities across a variety of laboratory environments, including high-voltage electrical labs, pressure, mechanical and dimensional labs, and temperature laboratories. The role encompasses duties of a difficult nature, requiring both independent and collaborative work to ensure accuracy and compliance with technical standards.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $56.94 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.  

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Under direction or supervision of an employee in a higher classification, performs laboratory and field assignments including dielectric testing, maintenance and repairs, calibration, and investigation on a wide variety of material and equipment.
  • Performs other investigative work as directed. Prepare reports on results of investigations. May be required to perform tests in the field without direct supervision if task qualified and may direct the work of other employees
  • Independently operate flow loops to perform flowmeter calibrations
  • Carry out calibration procedures for electrical, mechanical, pressure, dimensional and temperature instruments in various laboratory settings.
  • Apply laboratory procedures, techniques, and materials with attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Perform both field and laboratory work, demonstrating proficiency in specialized tests and calibration processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of calibration results and support continuous improvement initiatives within the lab.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • Associate degree in electronics, mechanical or similar discipline; or its equivalent in education and experience in performing calibration
  • Two years of experience performing calibration

 

Desired:

  • Experience with work procedure scripting
  • Experience with Digital/Analog measurement and test equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory calibration techniques and procedures.
  • Applied experience with fundamentals of AC and DC electronics
  • Ability to manage tasks of varying complexity, including those of a difficult nature.
  • Familiarity with operating specialized equipment such as calibration standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and capacity to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Relevant educational background or certifications in engineering, metrology, or related fields
