The Grid Operations, Applications, and Transformation (GOAT) team is dedicated to implementing and maintaining PG&E’s Operational Technology including the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), which is fundamental to a sustainable energy future and the Grid of Tomorrow.

 

We are seeking integrity-driven, diverse, and collaborative individuals to join us as a SCADA specialist.

 

The SCADA specialist will be an integral part of our GOAT organization. This position provides leading edge technology enabling PG&E to improve and enhance operational technology. This role will be focused on supporting real-time SCADA operations, ensuring system reliability, and driving continuous improvement. The SCADA Specialist will collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, operations, and IT partners to implement and optimize solutions that align with PG&E’s mission for safe and efficient grid operations.

 

The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)            $93,000.00

Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)        $116,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $139,000.00

 

Minimum Base Salary (California)         $88,000.00

Mid Base Salary (California)      $110,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (California)        $132,000.00

 

Responsibilities include:

  • SCADA application Support: Provide support for SCADA applications. Responsible for communication with end-users and vendors for SCADA software problems and support. Responsible for providing business perspectives for proposed changes to SCADA applications and associated interfaces. Works with real time and historical database administration

 

  • SCADA: Provides support to Operations, Field personnel and IT personnel, and Operations users in the support and implementation of SCADA. In addition, is available 24 x 7 for production support of SCADA systems. Works with business clients to align technical recommendations with business objectives by understanding the strategies and objectives of supported business units. 
  • Compliance and Process Improvement: Assist with ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Use of best practices and benchmarks to achieve efficient and effective services. Apply specific best practices as appropriate continued improvement in core competencies. Uses industry recognized approaches, methodologies and techniques specific to competency area to deliver quality real-time control and monitoring solutions.

 

  • This is a fully experienced position: incumbent performs assignments of broad scope and complexity with moderate to high risk and few precedents or standard solutions in an autonomous fashion under general guidance.
  • Resolves problems of moderate scope within procedural guidelines. Seeks assistance from the supervisor or more senior employees on unusual or especially controversial problems. Assignments may provide an opportunity for creative or non-standard approaches.
  • The incumbent supports work plans to meet assigned general objectives; progress is reviewed upon completion and solutions may provide an opportunity for creative/non-standard approaches.
  • Must maintain a close working relationship with the line of business operations group. Will be the first point of contact for LOB operations for all SCADA related issues.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related discipline or equivalent experience or technical training
  • 3 years of working with SCADA or other Process Control Systems in the Power Generation Industry

 

Desired:

  • Experience working control systems. Schnieder electric ADMS experience preferred
  • 1 year and/or the equivalent knowledge of electric power substation apparatus maintenance experience involving testing of power transformers, testing and repairing of power circuit breakers and electrical system testing and repair.
  • Experience working with SCADA or process control systems preferred
  • Three (3) years and/or the equivalent knowledge of practical experience in testing, calibrating protective relay devices and revenue meters
  • Three (3) years and/or the equivalent knowledge of electric power substation apparatus maintenance experience involving testing of power transformers, testing and repairing of power circuit breakers and electrical system testing and repair.
  • System Dispatch Certification
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Technical Journeyman Certificate
  • Information technology skills such as operating system and network administration
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, SQL and other Windows programs is required Knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems desired
  • Knowledge of gas transmission operations desired
  • Knowledge of Hydro generation, FERC licensing requirements desired
  • Knowledge of ADMS, GE e-terra, OSI, RTscada, display and database building procedures desired
  • Graphical user interface (GUI) and design skills desired Knowledge of computer networking and SCADA protocols desired
  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems desire
  • Ability to be self-managing and to relish the challenges of problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to develop positive relationships with stakeholders, internal and external customers
