Department Overview

Electric Operations ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Electric Operations Team is responsible for ensuring the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through the ongoing maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of Transmission lines. Coworkers in Electric Operations actively engage in the Lean Methodology through the use of visual management in operating reviews to cross-functionally identify and solve problems, and create standard work. By working together as One Electric. One Team. We are delivering for our hometowns. Electric Operations is comprised of approximately 6,500 coworkers.

 

Position Summary

Kern Headquarters (Wasco, Bakersfield, Taft etc.). This position is not hybrid, but will occassionally allow remote work. 

 

The Electric Operations Distribution Maintenance and Construction leadership manages teams directly or indirectly involved in maintaining or building parts of the service territory distribution grid. Supervisors and Superintendents may oversee teams working projects throughout the services territory. The Distribution leaders provide safe and reliable electric service while maintaining compliance with the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) General Orders, all safety regulations and other regulatory requirements. The leaders fully implement safety best practices and manage employee’s accountability. Leaders must ensure full compliance with the Injury & Illness Prevention Program.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

California Minimum: $​137,000

California Maximum: $232,000

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operates, maintains and construct the electric system in a way that's consistent with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures maintenance and construction work in assigned area is completed on time, within budget and quality expectations while adhering to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Regularly visits work sites (at least 25% of time) to monitor progress and employee performance
  • Manages approximately $40 million capital and expense budget to ensure work identified in the Operating Plan is completed and unit cost targets are achieved.
  • Assesses complex field situations and makes decisions and recommendations for solution.
  • Ensures a high customer satisfaction result by always keeping the customer needs at the forefront of decision making. Identifies customer safety issues and communicates those issues under high pressure, time restricted situations to the customer.
  • Recommends best practices to subordinate staff, and overrides unsafe decisions in a practical and tactical way.
  • Partners with peers, staff departments, matrix organizations and outside agencies to achieve departmental goals and improve overall business results. Identifies and influences implementation of best practices to improve productivity and reduce operating costs
  • Establishes assessment systems and monitor activities to ensure compliance with established procedures.
  • Develops and maintains regional contacts and Interacts with local government.
  • Proactively prepares for and responds to emergency situations and company efforts to reduce system risks. May serve as Incident Commander in OEC/EOC major emergency activations.
  • Manages staff to accomplish results through recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High-School Diploma or GED
  • 7 years of related experience in electric utility maintenance, construction, or operations
  • 3 years of supervisory experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or other related field
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role over electric construction, maintenance and/or operations personnel, including bargaining unit employees
  • In depth knowledge of electric utility construction, maintenance, resource planning, regulatory compliance and safety best practices.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Leadership and change management skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate electrical work procedures, work methods, standards, policies, and guidelines
  • Interpersonal and collaboration skills to build strong relationships with peers, subordinates, and all levels of management
  • Customer service skills.
  • Coaching, mentoring, employee development skills
  • Knowledge of GO 95, 128 ,165 requirements and IBEW bargaining unit contract
  • Project management skills with large capital projects.
  • Strong analytical problem solving
  • Knowledge of the company's Emergency Management Process, the Operation Emergency Coordinators (OEC) role and safety practices.
  • Travels at least 10% - 50% of time with occasional overnight stays
  • Must be able to travel and work a flexible schedule, including being on call as well as responding to emergencies that may occur throughout our service territory
  • May work outside in remote areas, steep and/or uneven terrain, and inclement weather conditions.
