The Engineering Department at Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) is responsible for the design and licensing basis of the plant. Engineering Department personnel perform the functions of design engineering, system engineering, program engineering, component engineering, reactor engineering and several other specialized engineering functions. Engineering Department personnel maintain a nuclear safety focus, an operational focus and a quality focus. Engineering Department personnel manage the configuration of the nuclear power plant and provide the technical conscience function when supporting key stakeholders in other DCPP Departments.
Position Summary
This is an ESC represented exempt classification currently subject to collective bargaining.
To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Starting May 5, 2027, DCPP will require a Real ID.
This is a journey-level engineer job that requires mastery of the associate level engineer skills and duties and is responsible for implementing various engineering programs activities. You will work with operations and maintenance personnel, engineers, project managers, and other business partners in assessing project and plant needs.
The Equipment Reliability Process is an integrated and coordinated site-wide program involving Engineering, Maintenance, Operations and Procurement Services. Establishing and enhancing these organizational links is an integral part of this journey engineer’s responsibilities.
Responsibilities beyond those of associate and journey engineer include, but are not limited to, maintaining DCPP ER metrics, Technical Coordinator duties for ongoing Engineering Programs Group contracts, supporting Strategic Teaming and Resource Sharing (STARS) Alliance ER initiatives and action items, participating in the industry ER Working Group, performing qualified backup functions for the DCPP Maintenance Rule Coordinator.
You must be able to travel at least 10% of the time.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
California Minimum: $115,128
California Maximum: $175,080
Responsibilities
- Developing an engineering operation plan for the Engineering department that includes cost, risk, and scheduling for major scopes of work for the next 10 years.
- Supporting station Equipment Reliability (ER) efforts: benchmarking, process improvements, and developing meeting content. Efforts include participating in periodic industry ER Working Group meetings and STARS ER Team meetings and initiatives.
- Helping to facilitate / support Reliability Centered Maintenance meetings.
- Oversight / creation of visualization tools and processing enhancements using Power BI, AI, etc.
- Processing Preventive Maintenance Change Requests
- Implementing the Buried Pipe Program
- Technical Coordinator for ongoing Engineering programs contracts: Preparing contract purchase requisitions, supporting purchase order issuance, ensuring technical and contractual requirements are satisfied, and required actions are taken to implement results.
- Assuring that all DCPP ER metrics are maintained accurate and current.
- Works independently with only general direction
- May lead troubleshooting or problem resolution teams.
- Support and conduct training activities.
- Represents PG&E to government bodies as required for assigned projects and programs.
- Performs independent reviews of technical documents, calculations and procedures.
- Provides technical direction to associate and journey employees
- May act as test lead for test procedures.
- Possess sufficient understanding of design basis, plant operations, components, systems as required to perform the above.
- May be required to respond to plant support callout.
- Participate in an assigned Emergency Response Organization (ERO) position (may be part of an on-call duty team)
Qualifications
Minimum
- A four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the United States or the equivalent as defined in ANSI/ANS-3.1-1 993
- Mastery of the Associate level Engineer job duties or equivalent and demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform the basic duties of the Journey Level Engineer. Meets specific technical requirements gained through a minimum of four years of cumulative experience in engineering and related science or three years as an Associate Engineer (NUC). Has obtained applicable qualifications for position as specified in the Engineering Support Personnel training program.
Desired:
- Demonstrated experience in commercial nuclear power plant engineering.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Current California Professional Engineer license.
