Department Overview

Energy Delivery ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response.  

 

Position Summary 

The Business Finance Analyst, Expert will serve as the primary financial analyst for the Temporary Generation Department within Distribution Operations. You will integrate with the organization to influence and drive cross team collaboration both internal and external to PG&E to improve project forecasting and support execution excellence.

 

You must be a clear and concise communicator with written communication skills, strong analytical and quantitative skills, a background in finance or accounting, poise in working with many levels of staff, strong organizational and planning skills, initiative and enthusiasm, and strong people skills. 

 

Disclosure:

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.

 

The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Minimum Base Salary

$112,000

Mid Base Salary

$145,000

Maximum Base Salary

$179,000

 

Job Responsibilities 

 

Reporting & Analytics:

  • Provide timely and accurate monthly financial visibility to assess performance, integrate operational performance and initiative-taking financial analytics with the objective of identifying opportunities, risks, and associated catch back plans. 
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, working with business partners to analyze key drivers causing significant variances and assist as needed in developing or actioning catch back plans.
  • Meet with internal and external business partners to review costs and cost drivers, discuss variances, and provide insights and analyses as a financial subject matter expert.
  • Lead and facilitate budget discussions that drive efficiencies and clarity around variances and the end of year forecast.

 

Forecasting (Short Term):

  • Provide timely, balanced financial forecasts that capture current performance and enable nimble, value optimized operational and financial decisions.

 

Planning (Long Term):

  • Advise and integrate the business unit financial plans and performance baselines to meet the Company's long-term operational and financial objectives.

 

Process Optimization:

  • Identify, and evaluate key processes for opportunities in effectiveness, control, and efficiency, and recommend and implement improvements.

 

Tools:

  • SAP, CMBD, Power BI, Excel

 

Monitoring, Controlling, and Accounting:

  • Proactively monitor costs and coordinate the corrections of cost accounting errors as needed. Manage Orders and corporate hierarchy logic for partners to ensure reporting is accurate and systematically supported.
  • Provide any ad-hoc SAP assistance to partners.
  • Review partner cost monitoring systems to ensure that adequate controls are in place to timely uncover and correct erroneous charges.

 

Support Key Business Issues: 

  • Actively participate in strategic initiatives related to Business Finance or business partner organizations and complete assigned tasks related to the initiatives.

 

Qualifications 

Minimum:  

  • Bachelor of Arts / Science in accounting, business, finance, or equivalent work experience
  • Five (5) years of relevant financial analyst experience 

Desired: 

  • Strong technical background and skills
  • Experience with budgeting processes
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented and self-directed initiatives
  • Working knowledge of PowerBI, SAP, Analysis for Office (AO), and/or Tableau
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office applications: Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Lean Six Sigma, CPA, or MBA
