Department Overview

PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

 

Position Summary

This Senior Manager position will oversee the execution of major capital projects at the Helms Pumped Storage Project associated with increasing the generation capacity of the facility and lifecycle replacement of major equipment including balance of plant.  The manager will lead teams primarily responsible for managing the work including teams responsible for project management and controls, design, outage/construction management, engineering, and supporting services.  The work group is anticipated to consist of a mix of regular employees, contractors and matrixed employees and will need to integrate the work of other contributors not reporting into this organization.  The leaders promote a safety culture and ensure staff adhere to all company and regulatory safety practices and policies.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

California Minimum: $​159,000

California Maximum: $270,000

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees resolution of complex projects and programs.
  • Develops and tracks metrics that provide data for process measurement, business operations or risk assessment and present findings to leadership.
  • Provides analysis, market intelligence, governance, research, best practices, project plans to ensure successful implementation of key milestones identified for strategic program.
  • Act as the primary interface for big, complex programs including leading coordination and facilitation of program review sessions to review costs, schedule and program effectiveness.
  • Manages project portfolios to allow cross-prioritization of projects for budget forecasting purposes; ensure projects are strategically aligned, and ensures projects stay on track.
  • Manages the portfolio of assigned projects and ensures all projects are designed safely and constructed on time, on budget, on scope, and without adverse environmental or regulatory impacts.
  • Presents findings and makes recommendations to officers and high-level leaders.
  • Develops and builds a high performance team by setting goals, developing and managing work resources, and ensuring the team has adequate tools, training and technology to successfully perform their jobs.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 8 years

 

Desired Qualifications:

    • Masters Degree in Engineering or job-related experience
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or equivalent
    • Experience in utility construction, 5 years
    • Experience in project management, electric utility, 5 years
    • Experience in executing projects on hydroelectric facilities, 5 years.
    • Competency in maneuvering comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related organizational dynamics
    • Competency in seeing ahead to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategies
    • Ability to apply program management theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
    • Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
    • Demonstrated experience in successfully integrating diverse teams, both in a direct reporting relationship and in a stakeholder or non-direct reporting relationship to achieve successful results on complex projects or programs.
    • Knowledge of budget components to ensure funding level is appropriate based on key goals, objectives, implementation technology and strategy, and performance metrics as needed to perform at the job level. .
