Department Overview

 

PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

 

 

Position Summary

 

The Power Generation Senior Construction Manager is responsible for Power Generation facility and asset inspection coordination.  The Construction Manager in coordination with Power Generation Asset Program Leads identifies work required to facilitate inspection , contracts or arranges for temporary resources, monitors the performance of work orders and contracts, coordinates with work crews and operating entities, oversees contracted inspectors, and on an inspection specific basis performs construct ion oversight. The incumbent may also prepare job work estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with bidders, and contractors as necessary for the task. The Construction Manager ensures inspection activities are completed per company standards, regulatory guidelines, permits and schedule.

 

This position is hybrid with field visits throughout the southern hydro areas 1-3 days a week.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

  

California Minimum: $100,000

California Mid: $130,000

California Maximum: $161,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

 

  • Works closely with Power Generation Asset Program Leads to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects.
  • Compiles and interprets internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes, renegotiates contract scope with contractor when needed. Following start of field work, consults and clarifies technical details for contractors, and Inspectors while assisting with change orders if needed.
  • Attends job scope walk downs, leads job scope discussions
  • Attends T- outage meetings to deconflict inspection requirements.
  • Addresses all communication and project documentation with contractors and conduct meetings at the job site.
  • Monitors daily inspection and construction activities and ensures the construction operations meet the program’s safety, quality, cost and schedule goals.
  • Acts as point of contact for contractors, ensures the contractor’s plan and assigned resources are adequate to deliver the highest value. Obtains any information, resources, services or materials needed to maintain the project work flow, budget and schedule from Power Generation Outage Management, Operations & Maintenance, Asset Engineering, Contracts or other internal PG&E teams.
  • Acts as Incident Commander and PG&E Representative in the field. Ensures contractors follow safety plans, project environmental/land permits and PG&E safety rules and processes.
  • Oversees the Inspection work. Coordinates the work of support contractors and field inspectors to ensure adequate coverage of all work performed.
  • Communicates inspection findings to Asset Engineering and seeks advice for any change affecting cost and schedule.
  • Works with Power Generation Outage Management to establish planning/schedule dates for activities to commence later in the year.
  • Provides mentoring and training to Associate and Career level employees

 

Qualifications

 

 

 

Minimum

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience in the field of Industrial engineering or Construction

 

 

Desired

 

  • 7 years working experience in the field of Industrial Engineering or Construction.
