Department Overview

Electric Transmission & Distribution ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Electric Transmission & Distribution Team is responsible for ensuring the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through the ongoing maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of Transmission lines. Coworkers in Electric Transmission & Distribution actively engage in the Lean Methodology through the use of visual management in operating reviews to cross-functionally identify and solve problems, and create standard work. Position Summary


The Transmission Construction Inspector are qualified company representatives responsible for providing direct oversight of construction activities by contractors at PG&E. The Incumbents are the liaisons between the contractor and all other workgroups that may be involved in the successful completion of the construction project. Inspectors may be responsible for civil construction, electrical construction, or both. Transmission Construction Inspector focuses on contractor and coworker safety, compliance with PG&E designs and standards, productivity, and quality control/quality assurance.  They foster a safe work environment by exhibiting an absolute commitment to safety for self and others.

 

Headquarter base  for role will be Eureka, CA. 

 

Position will require approximately 75% of travel time in work schedule. 

 

Work is predominantly outdoors and in all weather conditions. 

 

The individual must be able to drive safely, work extended hours; report to headquarters upon request at any time, travel to new headquarters upon request at any time, and wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $50.00 to $79.80

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation program

 

Job Responsibilities


•    In addition to all responsibilities of the Transmission Construction Inspector, Senior is responsible for; Involved in up-front planning, including but not limited to attending walk downs, design reviews and constructability reviews to reduce construction costs and increase safety.
•    Manages substation construction projects by overseeing all construction activities.
•    Ensures that all new equipment forms are submitted in the system of record.
•    Ensures physical and cyber security of substations during construction activities.
•    Act to resolve complex material and engineering issues related to construction.
•    Provides Project Managers with status reports detailing any changes to scope, schedule or cost.
•    Ensures that contractors are working efficiently and with PG&E’s best financial interests in mind.
•    Verifies contacted work is completed to specifications and coordinates with Contract Management group to approve contractor invoices.

•    Tracks and documents unit quantities, materials used, project status, and communicate with Lead Inspector regarding scheduling and scope changes

 

Qualifications-

Minimum Qualifications:  
•    High School or GED
•    4 years of journey-level experience in utility-related construction, project management, or supervisory role.

Desired Qualifications:
•    Experience performing or overseeing construction or maintenance activities in an energized substation environment.
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field

•    Candidate lives within 50 miles of headquarters

o    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and (Technical) Competencies
o    Strong leadership and coaching skills. 
o    Proficiency in interpreting relevant drawings (electrical or civil) to confirm constructability.
o    MS Office suite skills
o    Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control
o    Ability to manage conflict resolution while working in a team and stakeholder environment.
o    Ability to interpret contractor documentation, language and specifications
o    Ability to oversee multiple projects in various phases of construction.
