Position Summary

The Automation Specialist Supervisor will lead a team of Automation Specialists responsible for working with the automation engineering group to implement new control schemes using human machine interface (HMI) and other substation apparatuses.  The primary role is to lead the Automation Specialist team in the everyday support of substation HMIs (non-RTscada) technology as well as supporting the Automation Engineering team in the deployment of enhancements, upgrades to current tools and implementation of new technology.  He/She must be able to work with individual contributors, supervisor and manager level leaders in the Electric Operations and Electric Engineering organizations to influence decision making, and quickly gain credibility and trust of both leadership and peers. 

As supervisor of the team, you will be responsible for the prioritizing of resources activities, developing and maintaining work-plans to manage the day to day activity of the Automation Specialist team. The successful candidate will participate on the System Automation Leadership team to establish strategies and goals to meet our vision and mission.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

• Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $140,000.00
• Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)    $189,000.00
• Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $238,000.00

• Minimum Base Salary (California)    $133,000.00
• Mid Base Salary (California)    $180,000.00
• Maximum Base Salary (California)    $226,000.00

 
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform all necessary responsibilities of this position and as requested by the Manager of Automation. This person will foster and promote teamwork among Automation Specialist team members, automation engineers, and other organizations. In particular, the successful candidate will:
•    Provide daily oversight of Automation Specialists located across the PG&E service territory
•    Work with the Automation engineering team to ensure that the equipment being designed meet the operational needs of T&D Operations. 
•    Manages the successful implementation of new/enhanced automation systems on time
•    Support Substation apparatus design and deployment in alignment with Operations group in operating the transmission system efficiently. 
•    Collaborate with leadership to oversee adherence of operations to processes and practices that comply with standards.
•    Spearheads any required memos of understanding between departments collaborating for compliance purposes and concerning protection and control schemes.
•    Fosters a safety-first environment that openly acknowledges safe behavior and encourages employees to report safety issues
•    Manage Corrective Action Program (CAP) issues and assign support resources as required
•    Actively manages employee performance, including strengths and areas for development
•    Communicates with understanding and conveys clear, timely, persuasive messages that positively influence the thoughts and actions of others

•    Perform all necessary supervisory responsibilities, including but not limited to, work assignment, coaching, performance appraisal, development plan, special project assignment, contract administration, manager vacation relief, training coordination.

Qualifications
Minimum:
•    Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relative working experience
•    5 years of engineering experience with some experience in electric utility automation and SCADA systems.
 
Desired:
•    Advanced knowledge of System Automation and Scada processes and procedures, work activities, and roles and relationship between, System Automation, System Protection, Test, and Business Applications (i.e. EMS, ADMS & T&D Scada departments).
•    Working experience with one or more software programs such as, EATON SMP (SG-4260) Gateway application suite.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Strong communication skills, both written and verbal to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences.
•    Project management and facilitation skills.
•    Minimum of 3 years of job experience leading teams, developing and executing organizational work plans including employee development and coaching
•    MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, & Excel.
•    Ability to review and assess issues, work independently and with other business teams on an impartial basis.
•    Ability to anticipate issues and concerns to provide proactive, timely and professional communications
•    Competency in developing and delivering communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences
•    Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
