Department Overview

Electric Substation Engineering is responsible for resilient and reliable design for the Substation system, including the electrical and civil engineering elements.

Position Summary

PG&E is seeking an undergraduate student to be a member of the Electric Engineering organization, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Electric Transmission Engineering and matrixed to the Business Operations Principle for the team.

This role will focus primarily on supporting Substation Engineering, with various projects that support the broader organization and cross-functional partners to drive visibility and efficiency in our processes. This will be a high-visibility role, participating in daily meetings with the Sr. Director and working on team-wide initiatives.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $29.81 

Responsibilities

Support special projects that include but are not limited to:

• Developing a strategy and implementation plan for managing project workflows for our 2026 capital investment work plan and 2027 planning.
• Supporting beneficial load growth initiatives.
• Take a leading role in coordinating events and opportunities for interns across Substation Engineering,
• Improving the reliability of our customers’ electric service

• • Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Extract and analyze data from various PG&E systems, aggregating and synthesizing to formulate findings and recommendations.
  • The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Electric Engineering organization through the work they will be performing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Qualified candidates are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Policy, Project/Program Management, or related field at an accredited University
• Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship in a full-time capacity

Desired:

• 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
• Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
• Leadership and executive communication experience.
• Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
• Excellent written (technical report writing, email, presentations, dashboards/summaries of key takeaways) and oral (phone and in-person) communication skills, including technical writing and presentations
• Strong attention to detail, ensure consistency across concepts, be careful about details and thorough in completing work tasks.
• Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction, escalating when appropriate to get work done in a timely manner.
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and others.
