Department Overview

 

Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation, and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.

 

 

Position Summary

 

Manages outages in Hydroelectric Powerhouses or Fossil Power Plants throughout the PG&E system.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

A reasonable salary range is:

 

Minimum Base Salary (California)           $ 125,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (California)          $ 187,000.00

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Works closely with key stakeholders in developing technical scope, planning, pricing, contract structure and incentives, contractor performance, and quality control.
  • Communicates (oral and written) recommendations and findings to high level leaders and officers.
  • Manages complex outages, maintenance activities and some capital projects, typically over 6 weeks in duration and cost from 5 to 50 million.
  • Manages a cross-functional matrix team in developing, implementing, and updating of an outage schedule.
  • Performs evaluation of emergent outage work.
  • Works with Asset Management and Planning to reduce the amount of emergent work during an outage.
  • Leads outage pre-planning and coordinates all startup activities.
  • Provides oversight for outage scope control.
  • Works on unique and complex problems having broad impact that require in depth analysis and judgment to obtain results or solutions.
  • Ensures appropriate scope freeze deadlines and pre-outage activities.

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

Minimum:

 

  • High School or General Educational Development- GED Diploma
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License or equivalent on day one of hire
  • 10-years’ experience in operations, maintenance, construction, power generation systems or equivalent experience

 

 

Desired:

 

  • Bachelor of Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or equivalent certification
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of database and information systems - for example SAP, MS Access, Shared Drives, SharePoint– as needed to perform at the job level
  • Competency in anticipating and adopting innovations in business-building digital and technology applications
  • Competency in adapting approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations
  • Knowledge of project management tools - for example Primavera, PGE work scheduling and management - as needed to perform at the job level
  • Knowledge of project management theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
  • Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences
  • Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
