Department Overview

Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers.

 

Position Summary

Lead a team responsible for key components of the Corrective Action Program (CAP) process.  These components address the capture, evaluation, cause analysis (including root cause analyses) of asset-related failures, serious injuries and fatalities, incidents, nonconformities, and other problems; the development and completion of corrective and preventive action plans; monitoring and trending; and the overall coordination of related activities.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​147,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​251,000

&/OR​

California Minimum: $​140,000

California Maximum: $238,000

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Applies experience and knowledge to lead a team responsible for the evaluation and resolution of issues with the Corrective Action Program process for multiple business units.
  • Develops and improves processes and programs.
    • Mature the Corrective Action Program by using knowledge of best practices to implement program improvements: drive timeliness and quality to make corrective actions effective and efficient; maintain a long-term plan with intermittent milestones to improve program health, usage, and adherence.
    • Develop department vision and mission including specific plans to grow functional expertise through industry participation, benchmarking, training, and development.
  • Drives business and safety performance goals:
    • Builds a team that provides investigation expertise and thought leadership to the business through cause evaluation practices (including safety, compliance, operating events), and reportable incident investigations.
    • Leads to maturity the cause evaluation program with measurable goals to achieve zero Serious Injuries and Fatalities and event-free operations.
    • Provides expertise to business units to promote techniques, processes, and improvement measures and to help others build quality principles into their developing organizations and processes.
    • Focuses business units on high priority corrective actions to help mitigate and reduce areas of risk using CAP and cause evaluation data, including barrier analysis and corrective action effectiveness
  • Maintains an effective presence with line of business leaders:
    • Matures CAP culture, drives a deeper understanding of root cause analysis, and ensures effective corrective actions.
    • Influences CAP best practice adoption with other lines of business and with Enterprise CAP.
  • Monitors CAP effectiveness:
    • Evaluates and improves CAP program and SIF investigation performance and maturity using enterprise standards and independent evaluations.
    • Uses the Corrective Action Program dashboard to convey key performance metrics and trends to senior leadership..
    • Ensures compliance with the enterprise standards and regulatory compliance associated with the program.
  • Actively improves CAP effectiveness:
    • Shares and suggests best practices at the CAP Governance Committee; sponsors the Safety Review Team;
    • Drives CARB effectiveness and culture; uses CARB to influence company safety culture, improve safety standards, drive safety and operational best practices, and evaluate overall effectiveness of corrective actions
    • Achieves best practice CAP culture by sponsoring practical problem solving, visual management that builds CAP culture across all areas of responsibility, and continuous and constructive feedback.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • Experience in safety, or related, 8 years
  • Leadership experience, 3 years role.

Desired:

  • Bachelors Degree in Safety Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Safety Culture
  • Experience in O&M-Operations and Maintenance
  • Experience applying Lean or similar improvement methodology
  • RCA-Root Cause Analysis certification
