Position Summary

This position is for a Senior IT Network Specialist – responsible for supporting project implementation, operations and maintenance of PG&E’s enterprise Voice infrastructure within the Network Solutions Team. The successful candidate must have an in-depth understanding and knowledge of Virtualization and Networking. Candidates must have strong expertise with VMware 6.0 & 6.5, NSX, Cisco UCS doing administration and maintenance. This person will also be working on projects including migrations, upgrades, and implementations.


The successful candidate must also effectively manage communications with vendors/service providers, clients, and peers. Maintain familiarity with currently implemented and new technology, including new versions of software/firmware, implementation of upgrades, and changes to procedures. Provide clear communication and documentation of events, processes, procedures and configuration details. The work location for the successful candidate is negotiable within the PG&E service territory and is contingent on space availability.


Job Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the setup, configuration, installation and maintenance of all physical and virtual servers

  • Proactively manage, maintain, monitor, patching, and problem resolution of all servers and applications that reside on the servers

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable security standards and requirements

  • System monitoring to maintain availability

  • Providing after-hours support for infrastructure related emergencies as well as occasional weekend maintenance

  • Evaluates new products and equipment and keeps abreast of new products and/or equipment available in the market

  • Perform testing and evaluations of new technologies in a lab environment






  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of experience supporting VMWare technology i.e. VSphere, VCenter, NSX, Cisco UCS (Blades, Fabric Interconnect, HyperFlex) or related systems

  • 3 years of experience working in a large server environment




  • Windows Server Experience

  • Experience in Cisco routing/switching/networking

  • Experience in Security/Firewall

  • Experience with SAN Storage

  • Experience with managing backup and disaster recovery technologies in a virtual infrastructure.

  • Ability to explain technical information to non-technical users
