Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

Provide GIS and database support for the implementation of risk management duties.  Responds to queries and resolves technical issues.  Leads and/or supports the preparation of annual regulatory reports.

 

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

Successful candidate should expect to travel to San Ramon, CA for projects, meetings, trainings, etc. on an as needed basis.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

 

Bay Area Minimum: $102,000

Bay Area Maximum: $162,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced user support and data integration
  • Develop and perform sophisticated data gathering, data integration, and quality control procedures for geospatial data, work with data source systems to resolve sophisticated issues; estimate impact of data issues to compliance and business commitments
  • Identify user quality control, support and data integration process improvement opportunities, gather input and agreement on new requirements and lead implementation, communication and training around process revisions/changes.
  • Lead special projects related to GIS.
  • Create and update metadata and catalog GIS layers, including documenting work flow procedures for staff using GIS, both in the office and in the field.
  • Lead efforts related to the preparation of annual reports to FERC, (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), SEC (Security and Exchange Commission), OPS (Office of Pipeline Safety) and CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission).
  • Support advanced enterprise GIS data modeling and data capture initiatives, develop and review software functionality requirements.
  • Lead GIS software, hardware and database projects and initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with other work groups and vendors, solve issues, produce technical communication
  • Lead projects and efforts related to opportunities for improvement in the way work is done, share expertise and lessons learned
  • Demonstrate by personal action a 100% commitment to employee and public safety.
  • Accurately identify Safety Critical Elements.
  • Provide integrity assurance guidance to the Integrity Management Program group.
  • Coach and mentor other GIS Technical Specialists.

 

 

Qualifications-

 

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5 years of experience with GIS applications.
  • 3 years of experience in the utility industry.
  • 3 years of experience in ArcGIS 9.x or later.

 

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of equivalent experience
  • 1 year of Experience with ArcFM or PODS
  • A current permanent employee of PG&E’s gas engineering department.
  • Utility industry experience, electric or gas, or other job-related
  • Participant in project work of moderate complexity
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety guidelines and precautions, and the ability to identify and avoid unnecessary safety risks
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database, software, and information systems
  • Basic knowledge of relevant programming languages
  • Basic competency in knowing the most effective and efficient requirements to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated competency in applying knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organization goals
  • Demonstrated competency in making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems
  • Demonstrated competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with stakeholder to meet shared objectives
  • Basic competency in mentoring teammates to meet both their career goals and the organization goals
