Department Overview:

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe, reliable and affordable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration, maintenance, and emergency response.

 

Position Summary:

The Senior Business System Specialist of Technology Strategy and Planning works within the Resource Management, Governance & Controls and Technology team in Gas Operations. The incumbent works with a cross functional group of stakeholders within Gas Operations and IT to create strategy and planning to meet the operational capabilities of the business. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining consistent methods and practices regarding the request and use of software applications that support gas operations capabilities and processes. 

 

The initial and primary focus of this position is on oversight of our internal processes. It includes the support of project portfolios by enhancing and improving methods and practices for governing and managing the work. It includes the review of current processes and procedures to determine what can be automated or semi-automated, the use of databases and reporting that provide action-item lists and insights into the work and data.

 

Position can be based out of San Ramon.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Analysis of current methods, practices, processes and procedures to determine efficient and effective improvements
  • Create efficient and effective information and data collection methods and practices
  • Create data and system tracking applications/tools to support financial and portfolio management
  • Cross train with other team members for support and backup purposes
  • Business case development (as-is process and gap analysis; problem solving facilitation, Cost/benefit analysis, identify Metrics & goals) 
  • Current process and gap analysis; problem solving facilitation; population of data spreadsheets 
  • IT Engagement for estimates & Solution proposals 
  • Actively contribute to teams that define, review and approve requirements for the business needs solution
  • Analyze end-to-end, moderate to high complexity business processes in one or more business functional areas
  • Collaborate with Work Management team members
  • Understand the current and future business environment of the organization and effectively anticipate, identify and meet the business needs 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems etc. or equivalent work experience 
  • 4 years of job-related experience in Business, Project and Process Management, IT or Engineering fields
  • Participation in projects of medium to high complexity

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office product suite and SharePoint Broad expertise in business systems and data analysis and very knowledgeable about the business requirements process
  • Detail oriented, analytical, good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with different teams across disciplines and levels
  • Senior-level knowledge and working experience with multiple corresponding Line of Business-related functional areas. Experience in energy related engineering to include background working with gas distribution, gas transmission pipelines, and pipeline construction
  • Knowledge of system process management; i.e. Lean, Six Sigma or similar knowledge
  • Technical experience in tracking and presenting ongoing metrics, such as budget reporting
  • May assist with writing functional specifications documents
