Department Overview
Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers.
Position Summary
Acts as a single clearing house for all planned outages on the gas transmission, distribution, and storage system. The primary focus of the job involves reviewing and authorizing clearance requests submitted by field personnel to perform work on gas system facilities.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $45.67 to $68.75.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as single point-of-contact for all planned work on the gas system, and final approver of all clearances. Reviews every clearance to ensure necessary information is incorporated to isolate the pipeline/equipment in a manner that is safe for field employees, minimize impact to end use customers, and preserve maximum pipeline and storage capacity for use by transportation marketers and shippers. Company incurs heavy liability if a mistake is made. Provides an authorized clearance package to the clearance supervisor to be used to perform the work.
- Schedules all work to minimize impact to end use customers and transportation revenue. Adheres to agreed schedule timelines and outage duration to reduce conflicts with maintenance and construction manpower/equipment constraints. Schedules all work in coordination with the Facilities Outage Group (FOG) and Long-Term Outage Coordinator.
- Provides written and verbal communications during clearance review process to clearance preparer, planning and engineering staff, account services reps, and marketing product managers. Prepares a clearance package to include items such as cover letter, maps, modeling information, customer impact information etc. to be utilized by the control room operators. Updates the Pipe Ranger web site with outage duration and capacity impact for use by the external transportation marketer and shipper customers.
- Safety is the single most important component of the clearance review process. The clearance review process must ensure that all work can be done in a safe manner to protect employees and the public.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
- 3 years of experience in any of the following gas activities: gas maintenance/construction, gas planning, clearance preparation, clearance supervisor; gas maintenance engineering (station/pipeline, division); gas mapping/estimating; operations specialist, and/or project management.
- Attendance at meetings both in-person at field facilities and via conference call.
- Up to 15% travel to attend meetings.
