Department Overview

PG&E’s Transportation Services team is responsible for operating one of the top 20 largest commercial and top 3 largest utility fleets in the U.S. Management responsibilities cover all aspects of PG&E’s owned and rental vehicles & equipment fleet, from design to disposition. The team is comprised of multiple operating departments including Field Operations, Engineering and Business Strategy and Analytics. Operating departments within Transportation Services are responsible for enterprise-wide management of over 13,500+ vehicles & equipment, regulatory and preventative maintenance compliance, expense & capital planning, budget and asset optimization, fuel procurement, clean air and alternate fuel initiatives.

 

Position Summary

The expert telematics lead is responsible for program management, implementation planning & execution, data analysis, dashboard development, reporting in support of business decision making. The expert lead will also be responsible for business process improvement, quality control, special projects and other adhoc initiatives associated with telematics and asset optimization.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and enhance enterprise Telematics Program which includes 13,500+ assets
  • Partners with operating departments and vendor to establish and deploy reporting to leverage operational efficiencies
  • Evaluates large data sets, identifies opportunities, establishes control reporting to optimize
  • Provides daily field support for technical, software, application and hardware issues for telematics program
  • Lead telematic implementation projects, determining scope, budget, timeframes, forming teams, assigning tasks, managing resources, issues and on-time execution
  • Complex telematics application and hardware root cause and issue resolution experience.
  • Effectively coordinate, monitor and manage installation progress and schedule (phone calls, emails, etc.) to ensure installations are completed per the schedule.
  • Test new telematic hardware, firmware, software and related applications to perform QA/QC
  • Lead and partner with vendor and internal operating departments to identify and resolve escalated issues and/or promptly close gaps
  • Develop and implement 3-year strategic telematics program, with input from the Corporate stakeholders, operators and operating committees.
  • Serves as relationship manager and single point of contact for telematics vendor

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering (i.e.: Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Metallurgical) or equivalent experience
  • Seven (7) years of related experience
     
    Desired:
  • 2 Year minimum direct experience with one or more telematic providers VerizonConnect, Telogis, GeoTab, Zonar,
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Automotive/electrical knowledge in how telematics systems interact with vehicles
  • Experience with telematics hardware, firmware and software
  • Demonstrated success with leading or co-facilitating large scale software & hardware implementations
  • Strong project management knowledge and skills to lead project teams
  • MBA, PMP, LSS certification, earned or in progress
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and prioritize
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills to effectively develop relationships with staff, clients and various levels of leadership.
  • Proficiency in applicable data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Tableau)
