Department Overview


Applied Technology Services (ATS) is a multidisciplinary team of 100 engineers, scientists, and technicians.  ATS has been providing technology based innovative, high-value services to the company for 35 years. The Performance Test and Analysis Unit specializes in evaluating the thermal, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical performance of commercial and residential appliances as well as power plant systems.   


Position Summary


This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.


Job Responsibilities


Under the direction or supervision of an employee in a higher classification, performs all laboratory and field assignments, maintenance and repairs, calibrations, and investigations of a difficult nature on a wide variety of materials and equipment. Performs other investigative work as directed.

Prepares reports on results of investigations. May be required to perform tests in the field without direct supervision and may direct the work of other employees.


This is the fully experienced, skilled level of Engineering Technician.





  • AA degree
  • Two years of experience in the classification of Engineering Technician I or equivalent education and experience with emphasis on fabrication, laboratory procedures and techniques, electrician work, instrumentation, and calibration of M&TE (measurement and test equipment)



  • Proven ability to work safely within industrial environments
  • Desired knowledge in the following areas: 
    • Instrumentation and control systems - Design, Installation, maintenance, calibration; 
    • AC/DC voltage systems theory - Measurement of current, power, voltage and how they relate to systems being tested; 
    • Measurement of pressure, temperature, water/coolant flow, mechanical displacement, speed and how they relate to a system being tested; 
    • Use of Data acquisition equipment and/or PLC systems; 
    • Plumbing skills; 
    • Mechanical aptitude;
    • Electrician skills
  • Self-Starter - Someone who is hands on, motivated to do good work, has a great work ethic, and performs at all levels from sweeping floors to skilled work
