Department Overview:

PG&E’s Gas Operations organization is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.


Position Summary:

The Engineering Rotation Development Program, Gas Operations, is an 18 month rotation program that provides engineers an opportunity to gain meaningful engineering experience in up to three departments within Gas Operations focused on improving PG&E’s large network of gas transmission and distribution pipelines.


Engineers will have the option to apply for associate level engineering positions after the second rotation or to complete a third rotation to gain experience in an additional department.



With six months in each rotation, participants will have enough time to learn about the rotational department and contribute to the department's success.  Engineers can expect to work in various locations across PG&E’s service territory.  Participants will likely rotate into two or three departments listed below:


  • Gas Asset Knowledge Management
  • Gas Standards and Policies
  • Gas Public Safety and Integrity Management
  • Gas Project Engineering and Design
  • Gas Investment Planning
  • Gas Transmission
  • Gas Distribution
  • Gas System Operations

Minimum Qualifications:
• Qualified candidates will graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s engineering degree in Civil, Mechanical or equivalent engineering, between May 2018 and August 2020
• Must have a valid driver’s license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date.  Will need to obtain a California Driver’s License if current license is from another state.
Desired Qualifications:
• Completed coursework in: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and other high-pressure pipeline related courses
• Former PG&E Intern
• Strong communications, initiative, and teamwork
• Work experience or internships in utilities, municipalities, or other pipeline related fields
