Department Overview


The Transmission Electric Asset Management Department initiates and plans PG&E’s capital and maintenance plans for electric substations and transmission lines to provide safe, reliable and affordable service to our customers. The Department’s planning and asset management function also includes customer requests such as electric generation interconnection and facility relocations.


Position Summary


This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.


This journey-level engineer job requires mastery of an Associate Engineer skills and duties.


This position will work with other highly qualified strategy and/or reliability engineers in the Electric Transmission Asset Management, T-Line Asset Strategy.  Asset Strategy is responsible for the strategy of the management of overhead and underground T-Line assets for their compete life cycle including but not limited to initial installation, maintenance, operations, renewal and retirement. This team manages asset risk and develops/implements tactical mitigations including but not limited to process controls and financial investments for public and employee safety among other business benefits.  In addition to the strategy, the team manages the outage management system including trending and reporting. 



Job Responsibilities


Is able to perform the job duties of the Associate Level engineer. As Assigned, additional job duties include, for transmission equipment:

  • Conduct engineering analyses, studies and review project scope for standards compliance.
  • Develop and implement PG&E’s electric transmission asset strategy
  • Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations.
  • Perform, document and publish equipment ratings
  • Assist other engineers, team members, and supervisor by developing, compiling, and providing technical data
  • Update and manage databases as required
  • Prepare or support incident investigations, equipment failure analyses and reliability studies.
  • Comply with FERC, CPUC, CAISO and other regulations and requirements
  • Communicate with regulators, customers and other external stakeholders to advance PG&E’s objectives.






  • BS Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US
  • 3 years of cumulative experience in engineering, planning and/or operations.



  • Current and active California PE license
  • Able to apply basic engineering principles and theory.
  • Assess and recommend solutions for routine projects.
  • Familiarity with electric transmission and distribution grid
  • Effective written and oral communications.
  • Good presentation skills and ability to lead meetings
  • Prioritize, plan and perform assigned work in an organized manner.
  • Demonstrates good judgment.
  • Shows initiative and is proactive.
  • Experience or comfort with tools such as Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint, ET-GIS
  • Background in six sigma process
  • Work easily with data to find trends
  • Knowledge of reliability metrics such as SAIDI, SAIFI, ACOD, ACOF
