Department Overview

 

PG&E's gas distribution system is the second largest in the country, extending approximately 48,000 miles.   In addition, PG&E manages 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline with over 100 customers, operates 9 compressor stations, and has 3 operating gas storage facilities (an additional facility is under development). 

 

The Public Safety and Integrity Management organization's vision is to:

  • Improve pipeline safety and system reliability with a goal of zero safety incidents. 
  • Promote a safety culture throughout all levels of the organization with an emphasis on improving learning from the past and anticipating the future. 
  • Apply integrity management principles on a system-wide basis while engaging our stakeholders from local communities we operate in, to our regulators so they can understand and participate in reducing our risk.
  • Support the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the transmission and distribution pipeline systems through the proactive use of asset knowledge, threat identification and analytical tools to increase operational efficiency, improve system integrity and minimize safety risk to employees and the communities we operate in. 

 

Position Summary

 

The Director of Distribution Integrity Management is responsible for directing a team of union and non-union professional employees responsible for assessing the integrity of the distribution system utilizing traceable, verifiable and complete asset knowledge (including but not limited construction records, operating and maintenance history, risk identification, etc.) and technological tools.  It is responsible for the development of a strategic integrity management plan for the entirety of the distribution assets (pipelines, services, meters, etc.). 

 

The diverse nature of the facilities and breath of responsibility require a leader with strong technical and leadership skills.

 

 

Reporting Relationship

 

This position reports to the Senior Director, Gas Integrity Management.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Direct the distribution integrity management team to ensure work not only meets the requirements of applicable codes and standards but strives to exceed them and is performed in an effective, efficient and safe manner
  • Oversee the following functions:
    • Assessment of the distribution system's current state
    • Application of risk management concepts beyond current regulatory requirements
    • Develop recommendations for the use of integrity management tools to address identified threats
    • Develop inventory and enhance protocols to support integrity management of pipelines built prior to PHMSA regulations
    • Participate in industry's technology development and deployment.
    • Develop a strategy for the use of isolation valves through the distribution system
    • Manage the damage prevention program
  • Develop and implement appropriate business goals
  • Develop workforce capability

Background Qualifications

 

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree engineering (Civil or Mechanical preferred)
  • Experience in gas engineering (at least 10 years)
  • Experience in integrity management (at least 5 years)
  • Leadership experience (at least 5 years)

  • PE license
  • CA Professional license in mechanical or civil engineering
