Department Overview

 

This position is in the Pipeline Services department within the Gas Transmission Engineering organization.  Gas Engineering contributes to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of PG&E’s gas transmission and distribution system including over 6,500 miles of gas transmission and 40,000 miles of gas distribution pipelines throughout California.

The Gas Transmission team is focused on doing the right work, at the right time and at the right cost. This is accomplished by ensuring our records are traceable, verifiable and complete; developing a clear understanding of codes and standards; understanding asset condition and performance data; and leveraging technology to improve the health of our assets.

 

The Pipeline Services Department oversees the technical services function, a field-based organization that reinforces the concept of asset ownership and promotes healthy collaboration with operations.  Specifically, Pipeline Services provides pipeline and some station asset maintenance engineering services to support the Gas Operation organization.

 

Position Summary

 

Performs asset management and engineering work in support of transmission operations production, construction and/or maintenance functions within Gas Operations. Expectation to be self-directed and proactive to ensure the timely, thorough, and accurate completion of engineering services, work and projects. Performs project management and on-call responsibilities as required. The engineer’s responsibilities contribute to Gas Safety Excellence goals by ensuring the safety, integrity and reliability of the assigned assets.

 

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory between Bakersfield, Fresno, and Merced, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory(Bakersfield, Fresno, and Merced).

 

Position will require approximately 20% of travel time in work schedule.

 

Incumbent may be required to have a valid California driver's license on day one of employment.

 

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

 

 

California Minimum:$90,000

California Maximum: $136,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

•           Performs basic engineering work using established engineering tools, processes and practices to complete work assignments

•           Partners with more experienced engineers to develop knowledge

•           Assists with more complex projects

•           Leads small teams to address asset issues

•           Receives priorities and directions with regard to work performed from supervisor or manager

•           Reviews work performed with supervisor periodically

•           Completes well defined tasks independently

•           Has basic knowledge of applicable principles, codes, regulations, polices, and procedures

•           Stand on-call for transmission pipeline or station incidents during off-hours

 

Qualifications-

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • BS Engineering or equivalent experience

 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Engineering in Training (EIT)
  • Oil or gas experience (transmission) with design, maintenance, construction and/or operations
  • One (1) year of engineering or construction experience
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Desired
    • Basic written and verbal communication skills
    • Has a basic understanding of the asset functions including threats and risks for their workstream
    • Ability to troubleshoot, evaluate and report on outcomes with some guidance from others
    • Ability to excel with limited guidance
