Department Overview

 

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

T-Line Asset Strategy is responsible for the strategy of the management of overhead and underground T-Line assets for their compete life cycle including but not limited to initial installation, maintenance, operations, renewal and retirement. This team manages asset risk and develops/implements tactical mitigations including but not limited to process controls and financial investments for public and employee safety among other business benefits. 

 

Reliability is responsible for the reliability strategy of the transmission network to meet company goals. In addition to the strategy, the team manages the outage management system including trending and reporting and submitting and responding to data requests from NERC, WECC, etc.

 

Position Summary

 

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientist of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

 

The Associate level engineer job works under the general technical direction of more experienced engineers. This position is responsible for providing technical standards and strategy, and implementation support for the transmission system. The responsibility level of this position increases with experience.

 

This position will work and support highly qualified strategy and/or reliability engineers in the Electric Transmission Asset, T-Line Strategy and Reliability section. The position will also require supporting efforts to manage the outage management system including building reports for leadership and identifying trends. At times, the role will require responding to planned and unplanned data requests from NERC, WECC, etc. and supporting leadership with priority tasks as needed.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

As assigned, for electric transmission, substation and distribution systems:

  • Develop and update equipment specifications, approve vendors and products
  • Develop design, engineering, maintenance and construction standards, and work procedures within the delegation of authority.
  • Perform, document and publish equipment ratings
  • Provide support for training to Maintenance and Construction
  • Provide support and communications to Maintenance and Construction, Operations, and Planning
  • Assist other engineers, team members, and supervision by developing, compiling, and providing technical data
  • Update and manage databases as required
  • Prepare or support incident investigations, equipment failure analyses and reliability studies.
  • Support emergency material strategy and implementation 

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or other job-related Engineering degree from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US
  • 1 year of experience in engineering, planning or operations

 

Desired:

  • Able to apply basic engineering principles and theory
  • Assess and recommend solutions for routine projects
  • Effective written and oral communications
  • Prioritize, plan and perform assigned work in an organized manner
  • Demonstrates good judgment
  • Must be a strong team player and have experience in dynamic teams
  • Shows initiative and is proactive
  • Familiarity with electric transmission and distribution grid
  • Good presentation skills and ability to facilitate meetings
  • Experience or comfort with tools such as Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint, ET-GIS
  • Control charts and standard deviations
  • Background in Six Sigma process
  • Experience or ability to manipulate data to find trends
  • Knowledge of reliability metrics such as SAIDI, SAIFI, ACOD, ACOF
