Department Overview

The Engineering Department at Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) is responsible for the design and licensing basis of the plant. Engineering Department personnel perform the functions of design engineering, system engineering, program engineering, component engineering, reactor engineering and several other specialized engineering functions.  Engineering Department personnel maintain a nuclear safety focus, an operational focus and a quality focus.  Engineering Department personnel manage the configuration of the nuclear power plant and provide the technical conscience function when supporting key stakeholders in other DCPP Departments.

 

Position Summary

This is an Engineers and Scientist of California (ESC) represented, exempt classification currently subject to collective bargaining. 

 

To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

 

This category is for the engineer that has acquired extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices, and works independently with only general direction. This senior engineer provides technical direction to engineers and completes assignments that require integration with other departments and are of broad scope and complexity.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Applies extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices in a specific discipline, field or area of expertise to resolve complex problems.
  • Completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards.
  • Completes assignments that require integration of information from a variety of sources.
  • Leads large, complex (multi-discipline, multi-group) technical projects for DCPP.
  • Provide support to other departments in technical and engineering areas.
  • Acts as a mentor for journey or associate engineers.
  • May lead troubleshooting or problem resolution teams.
  • Review large complex (multi-discipline, multi-system) projects, and perform technical analyses, studies, and develop conceptual solutions regarding digital engineering.
  • Identify and correct computer system, network and equipment problems and issues.
  • Schedule and coordinate engineering design and construction projects with key stakeholders such as Operations, Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Develops technical policies, procedures, and contributes to the development of standards, specifications, construction documents, and guidelines.
  • Reviews design documents and design changes to ensure plant design basis is maintained.
  • Presents findings and conclusions to internal organizations, contractors, outside vendors, regulators and management.
  • Develops and revises Software Quality Assurance plans on designated systems.
  • Develops and implements Software Change Packages for various plant computer systems.
  • Performs independent reviews and evaluations of technical documents, calculations, procedures and/or design drawings
  • Evaluates industry guidelines and information with respect to PG&E programs and procedures.
  • In addition to the Company job expectations regarding safety applicable to all employees, identify opportunities to implement safe work practices into procedures and champion their implementation.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the United States or the equivalent as defined in ANSI/ANS-3.1 – 1993, MA/MS/PHD desired
  • Mastery of the Associate and Journey level Engineer job duties and demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform the basic duties of the Senior Engineer. Meets specific technical requirements gained through a minimum of eight years of cumulative experience in engineering and related science.

Desired:

  • 3 years I&C engineering experience, or equivalent related technical experience
  • 3 years digital engineering experience, or equivalent related network systems experience
  • 3 years experience with Cisco network components
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • Working knowledge of SAP enterprise software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • 3 years commercial nuclear power plant engineering experience
  • Cisco CCNA, CCDP, or CCDE Certification
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs
  • Experience with Schneider Electric Triconex controllers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial nuclear power plant process principles, codes, regulation, policies, procedures, and design license basis related to the nuclear industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply complex problem solving techniques.
  • Work with limited supervision and guidance, both independently and/or as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to make timely and accurate decisions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply basic analytical and investigative to solve routine problems. 
  • Possess current Professional Engineer license.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and recommend solutions
  • Knowledge of industrial and regulatory cyber security requirements

  • Current and active California PE license
