Department Overview

PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

 

Position Summary

This position is the Supervisor of the Business Planning team, which is a staff of 5-7 employees, who provide the local Hydro Area and Fossil plant financial and business planning for Power Generation.  This team provides the local coordination of budgets and metrics, as well as provides additional operational services such as management of specific area contracts, as well as other duties as assigned by the local Hydro Area or Fossil plant managers.   This role also is likely to provide direct financial support to specific teams within Power Generation – an example of this would be the Hydro Licensing financial support.  

 

 

Responsibilities

- Oversees the local management reporting, develops and implements initiatives for affordability and other process improvement initiatives.   

- Leads the establishment of strategic, operational, and long-term investment plans, and the creation of performance goals and metrics.

- Provides consultation to the development and reporting of economic analysis, investment decisions, quality assurance, and workflow deployment. Partners with the Hydro Licensing and other team in Generation to develop and implement financial plans-

- Works with Project Management, Project Engineering and Business Finance in evaluating the portfolio of expense and capital work to be performed in Power Generation.

- Provides oversight on the local budget trades and work prioritization

-Conducts quality control audits and inspections of databases, files, reports,

-Manages, consolidates, and ensures the timely and accurate reporting of data and information from asset management programs and functions.

-Develops and monitors Business Planning program metrics, evaluates reports, identifies discrepancies, and implements corrective actions.

-Provides input and support regarding the development of asset management strategic plans.

-Supports the development and reporting of economic analysis, investment planning, risk assessment, quality assurance, and workflow delegation.

-Supervises, coaches, and develops a departmental staff

 

Qualifications

Minimum

-Bachelors Degree in Economics, or job-related discipline or equivalent experience

-Job-related experience, 5 years

 

Desired

-Experience in a Business Planning or Business Finance function

-Masters Degree in Business Administration or job-related discipline or equivalent experience

-PMI-Project Management Institute PMP-Project

-Management Professional certification

-LSS-Lean Six Sigma Certification

-Experience in leading teams

-Experience in asset management programs

-Competency in planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals

-Competency in interpreting and applying understanding of key financial indicators to make better business decisions

-Competency in providing direction, delegating, and removing obstacles to get work done

-Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences

-Competency in effectively building formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization Knowledge of asset and product functions, concepts, processes, and tools as needed to perform at the job level

-Competency in relating openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people

 

Travel: While located at the GO, travel to supervise remote staff team is required and estimated at 15-25%.  

 

 

Due to pending organizational changes in Generation, this role will be reporting to Tom Baldwin, Director Nuclear Business Operations
