Department Overview

The General Counsel Risk & Compliance (GCRC) department ensures the development, implementation and maintenance of compliance, ethics and risk management programs for all General Counsel departments: Enterprise Records & Information Management (ERIM), Land and Environmental Management, Law and Corporate Secretary. GCRC helps General Counsel departments identify risks and mitigations and ensures compliance with regulations and regulatory directives by providing guidance on processes and controls, and by monitoring compliance activities in order to remediate potential issues and mitigate risk.  GCRC also supports the implementation of the Corrective Action Program (CAP) in General Counsel.

 

Position Summary

Manages LOB’s risk and compliance programs, procedures and systems. Acts in a consultative capacity to assigned business units. Identifies and assesses organizational compliance requirements and operational risks. Develops controls and metrics and evaluates for effectiveness. Evaluates control deficiencies, supports the design of mitigating activities, and facilitates publishing policies and standards.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of compliance and risk concepts. Provides compliance and risk management expertise to assigned business units.
  • Applies advanced knowledge to help evaluate requirements, assess risk and monitor compliance.
  • Identifies and evaluates compliance risks and facilitates the mitigation of identified risks. Provides advice to assigned department(s) to facilitate the design and implementation of effective controls to mitigate risk and manage compliance requirements; evaluates and documents alternatives and make recommendations to compliance owners.
  • Evaluates and tests controls. Provides leadership and insight in evaluating control deficiencies and assists department to develop effective remediation plans based on root causes.
  • Understands and provides support to departments to map compliance-related processes and develop appropriate documentation.
  • Facilitates the identification of new and changing requirements – helps the assigned business unit to research and document new compliance requirements and works with diverse organizations to confirm ownership and implement/document controls framework.
  • Facilitates the assigned business unit to develop and analyze metrics.
  • Presents findings and makes recommendations to functional management and Director.
  • Develops and coordinates preparation of presentation materials for various levels of management up to and including vice president.

 

Qualifications

Minimum experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience in compliance or risk management, or related, 5 years

 

Desired Experience

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience in Audit, SOX or related fields
  • Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) certification
