Department Overview

The Finance Compliance and Controls Department is responsible for overseeing the effective operation of the company's internal controls over financial reporting, and acts in a consultative capacity as a business partner and financial controls expert to the entire organization.  The Third Party Risk Compliance Team is responsible for understanding the risk of contract and vendor activities measuring effectiveness and efficiency of risk reduction activities and reporting to senior management.

 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and Third Party Risk Management, the position will be responsible for helping ensure the effective operations of the company’s SOX and Third Party Risk Management business controls, and will act in a consultative capacity as it relates to controls and processes throughout the company.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Validate the design and operational effectiveness of SOX and Third Party Risk controls throughout the company.
  • Develop control language to address identified financial disclosure and third party risks.
  • Design audit test plans to verify controls are operating effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintain the Company's Internal Control Policies, Standards, and Procedures to ensure a consistent approach to documentation, testing and reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Business Partners External Auditors and Regulators for testing of the Company's internal controls pertaining to SOX and Third Party Risk Management.
  • Evaluate test results and document control deficiencies accordingly. 
  • Assist management in the development of deficiency remediation plans.
  • Identify opportunities for streamlining and automating control activities.
  • Work on special projects and participate on various initiatives (e.g., new system implementation, etc.).
  • Assess new accounting standards and guidance etc. and new third party risk compliance requirements such as the California Consumer Privacy Act to ensure enhancement/reengineering of current processes and controls. 
  • Assist in development of the yearly test plans which would include performing a risk assessment, developing and maintaining process flow narratives, and carrying out control walkthroughs with business partners.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting or auditing including public accounting experience which includes experience performing SOX-related compliance procedures

 

Desired:

  • SOX and Third Party Risk related compliance procedures
  • Background in internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR)
  • Understanding of AS5 and COSO framework
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP including internal control principles
  • CPA, CIA or equivalent
  • Big 4 public accounting experience
  • Experience in internal/external audits
  • Ability to assess and recommend solutions for moderate to complex processes
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, perform and communicate activities and findings both in written and verbal form
  • Ability to present analysis and findings in a cohesive, understandable and actionable format to department management and others
  • Understands programs, policy and operations to advise business on meaning of data and results
  • Ability to ask detailed, probing questions
  • Possesses excellent research and issue resolution skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships in several areas of the business at Team Lead and Business Process Owner level
  • Ability to positively influence business owners on control solutions
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse tasks and adhere to tight deadlines
