Department Overview

 

The mission of the Operations Systems Department within the Electric Grid Operations is to provide comprehensive engineering solutions to improve transmission system reliability and enable future growth of the Electric Transmission Grid. In addition, Operations Systems provide outstanding engineering support to Operations by resolving complex issues via implementation of state-of-the-art technology. 

 

RAS Operations is broken up into two primary support structures: 1) A group of individuals providing operational and project management support for the San Francisco RAS (SF RAS) and 500kV Pacific AC Intertie RAS (PACI RAS) systems, and 2) A group of individuals providing central oversight for all of PG&E’s local RASs / SPSs (Special Protection Scheme) and UVLSs (Undervoltage Load Shedding Schemes). This position is with the Remedial Action Scheme (RAS) Operations group of Operations Systems and will focus on supporting the more the local RASs / SPSs and UVLSs. 

  

Position Summary

The successful candidate will report to the Manager of RAS Operations and will be responsible for identifying and addressing gaps in the RAS/SPS and UVLS processes at PG&E. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers in other departments to enhance reliability and reduce risks associated with these local schemes throughout the PG&E transmission system.

  

Responsibilities

  • Work with various RAS/SPS and UVLS Stakeholders to identify and address gaps in the RAS/SPS and UVLS processes.
  • Develop and implement new processes for RASs from inception through retirement.
  • Evaluate and quantify risks associated with each scheme.
  • Work with various RAS/SPS Stakeholders to risk rank all RAS/SPS
  • Support other departments involved in RAS/SPS and UVLS processes. 
  • Provide training and mentorship to associate and journey level positions within the group.
  • Provide support to RAS Operations as needed.

 

Qualifications

Minimum

  • 5 or more years in a RAS systems or power systems or control systems environment.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.

 

Desired

  • Working knowledge of Remedial Action Schemes, Under Voltage Load Shedding Schemes, data communications, and network communications.
  • Works well in teams of diverse technical backgrounds
  • P.E.
  • Competitive candidates must have strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Competitive candidates should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to take initiative.
  • Extensive knowledge of Remedial Action Schemes and Special Protection Systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of WECC/NERC Standards including the compliance aspect of the standards.
  • Operational, planning, and/or protection experience.
  • Proficient with electrical or telecommunication protection.
