Department Overview

PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).


Position Summary

 Position will initially be in General Office for at least a year and then may be transferred to Auburn, Auberry, Chico or Redding/Burney.




  • High School Diploma or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • Two years of drafting training in high school and junior college or the equivalent in education and experience with a demonstrated drafting aptitude


  • Desired:
  • Functional expertise in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software (ie: AutoCADD, Microstation [preferred], etc.)
  • Competency in providing direction, delegating, and removing obstacles to get work done
  • Competency in relating openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people
  • Knowledge of engineering codes and standards as needed to perform at the job level
  • Ability to work independently with limited oversight
  • Ability to read and understand information presented in graphics, maps, schematics, or diagrams as needed to perform at the job level
    Take direction from design studies, sketches, computations, or other data of moderate complexity.
    Performs, under direction, general drafting or mapping work of a moderately difficult nature frequently requiring a search for data and coordination of information.
    Simple engineering computing work under direction.
