Department Overview
The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.
Position Summary
The Operations Data Analyst reports to the manager of Business Systems & Analytics within the Electric Business Operations group. The key functions of this role involve Data Engineering, Data Modeling/ETL, and Data Visualization. He or she extracts data for analysis, leadership support, and responds to ad hoc data requests. The individual maintains operation tools and databases to ensure that they are kept up-to-date using data from various PG&E systems. He or she develops, maintains, and enhances operational metric database tools for the broader analytics team. The analyst identifies and solves current gaps in data requirements and creates ease of access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain standard reporting and responds to data inquiries and ad hoc requests.
- Perform quality assurance checks on SQL Server processes and tables
- Maintain steady state SQL extracts and update weekly operational dashboards in Excel and Tableau.
- Serve as first point of contact to clients with ad hoc analysis and questions on weekly reports.
- Design data analysis to achieve business objectives, process data, analyze data, write clear and concise data findings and tailor communications to specific audiences. Analyzes data using various statistical tools to develop ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles
- Demonstrate and communicate clear, concise, and actionable data analyses for clients
- Provides recommendations to enhance database(s) with new data sources and improved data processes
- Participate on special initiatives project teams. May assist with some IT related enhancement discussions. Collaborates with team members on most effective field rollout of process, tool and/or reporting changes.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering or other related field or equivalent work experience
- Job-related experience
Desired:
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel/Access/Powerpoint
- Strong data analysis skills, knowledgeable in collecting data, organizing, synthesizing, reporting, recognizing trending and anomalies, drawing conclusions from data.
- Familiarity with utility operations
- Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience in creating packages and scripts in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Well-versed in data visualization best practices with proven experience using Tableau Desktop Professional.
- Extensive technical knowledge of SAP R3, BW, AO and BusinessObjects
