PG&E’s Customer Energy Solutions department (CES) is responsible for administering customer demand side management programs, including energy efficiency, distributed generation, demand response, and rate programs that help PG&E customers in Northern and Central California manage the energy use of their homes and businesses. The PG&E Energy Efficiency (EE) group focuses on inspiring and empowering our customers to eliminate unnecessary energy use, reduce their carbon footprint and save money. Position Summary

The EE Portfolio Strategy and Optimization team is responsible for three key areas: Portfolio Performance Management, Optimization & Targeting, and Portfolio Strategy & Planning. We are seeking a highly motivated and capable individual to lead initiatives that will help PG&E deliver on its mandate for a cost-effective portfolio and further the success of our strong portfolio of EE programs. The successful candidate will lead and support efforts to provide data-driven analysis and insights of the portfolio’s performance leading to actionable recommendations.


The ideal candidate has a passion for data and empirical information. To you, “Big Data” is not a buzz word but an underutilized resource the potential of which is far from reached. Analytics deliverables will typically be diagnostic (“why did it happen?”) or predictive (“what will happen?”). You are able to turn business problems into statistically-driven research questions, conduct the statistical analysis using tools such as SAS Enterprise Guide, Stata, MatLab and SPSS, and effectively “translate” that complex statistical analysis into easy to understand insights for non-technical audiences.



  • Evaluate portfolio performance and provide data-driven insights that lead to actionable recommendations
  • Frame analytic approaches and lead quantitative analyses that will yield critical answers to the questions at hand
  • Translate business problems into statistical/scientific questions
  • Leverage contacts within and beyond Company to pressure-test and refine solutions.
  • Integrate industry knowledge into everyday business practices and decision making.
  • Examine alternate solutions to issues, effectively troubleshoot various problems, analyses, and provide findings and recommendations for internal clients and external stakeholders.
  • Develop new analytic tools including complex econometric modeling, forecasting, data analysis and evaluation to support strategic planning and decision making.
  • Prepare analytic support for regulatory filings and presents complex analysis to leadership and/or external parties.
  • Implementing SQL best practices to efficiently query relevant customer and Energy Efficiency databases
  • Development of summary presentation or materials which may include database connected and automatically updating dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, Plotly, or other data visualization tools.
  • Document data sources, analytical methodology, and model evaluation metrics at a level that is sufficient to support business continuity and regulatory auditability





  •  6 years of job-related experience in areas such as data analysis, financial analysis, business analytics, and/or measurement and verification
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, business, finance, sociology, engineering, physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience



  • Demonstrated collaboration or paired development work history
  • Ability to present complex data and findings to internal audiences including managers and Directors and to external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to select appropriate analytical tools to resolve complex problems
  • Demonstrated proficiency with relational databases, preferably in SQL
  • Demonstrated proficiency with model development for decision analysis, forecasting, or other complex quantitative modeling
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, D3, Plotly, etc.
  • Ability to influence leaders inside and outside of the department through data analysis, insights and recommendations
  • Ability to lead, manage and analyze business processes and recommend improvements to gain efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ability to address complex strategic issues and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions
  • Demonstrate high level of innovative thinking focused on strategy and operational implementation
  • History mentoring and teaching others as well as desire to continue to do so
  • Enjoy working on complex multi-stage projects with a diverse team
  • Involvement or strong interest in the energy/clean tech industry
  • Past experience with advanced metering internal data
