Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

The Expert Quality Operations Specialist is responsible to collaborate and work with departments within Electric Operations to ensure Corrective Action Program execution and compliance. Performs detailed Corrective Action Program investigations and analyses using established formal cause evaluation methods and tools. Collaborates with departments within Electric Operations or across lines of business to develop effective corrective action plans for identified issues. Provides analyses and reporting of adverse trends. Develops quality management systems and plans for process improvement to assure quality assurance and quality control measures are implemented. Evaluates effectiveness of, and recommends improvements in business process, practice and procedures. Identifies and communicates opportunities for systemic continuous improvement.

 

This job requires travel approximately 60% of the time, through the PG&E service territory, with occasional overnight travel.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Corrective Action Program (CAP):

  • Collaborates and works with specific functional Electric departments to help coach employees on the use of the CAP program, helps appropriately assign issues, coaches issue owners on quality closure and timeliness of issue resolution.
  • Assigns CAP issues to the right organization
  • Problem solve to address issues in an effective and timely manner
  • Conducts cause evaluations and leads CAP investigations and analyses.
  • Verifies corrective actions are implemented and validates effectiveness to prevent recurrence.
  • Reviews issue data to analyze, identify and determine cognitive and adverse trends within the respective Electric department and make recommendations to improve system performance.

Process Improvement

  • Conducts business process analysis and identify process improvement
  • Participates in business process reengineering
  • Recommends process improvements for monitoring, executing and reporting
  • Provides quality recommendations by evaluating and reviewing processes in lines of businesses or departments
  • Promotes performance continuous improvement
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced colleagues

 

This job requires travel approximately 60% of the time, through the PG&E service territory, with occasional overnight travel.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • Job-related experience, 7 years progressive experience in utility operations or in other highly regulated industry
  • Experience in causal evaluation methods and investigations, utility, 2 years

 

Desired:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Cause evaluation training in one or more of the following methods; HFACS- Human Factors Analysis Classification, RCE-Root Cause Evaluation, CE-Cause Evaluation, 5-Whys, Fault Tree Analysis
  • Experience with business process reengineering
  • Experience in corrective action programs, nuclear
  • Experience in utility operations, or related, 2 years
  • Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Power Point skills
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and corrective action programs
  • Ability to influence all levels including senior management
  • Ability to interview personnel of all levels during incident investigations
  • Knowledge of work methods and procedures in order to accurately identify risks and areas for improvement
  • Ability to work independently and be effective in team settings
