Department Overview

The PG&E Cybersecurity organization is a dynamic group of security professionals, working to protect our critical assets, highest risks, adapting and growing to meet the challenges from ever-evolving adversaries. The Cybersecurity Risk Management department within the boarder organization focuses on identifying risks, helping partners reduce or mitigate risks, developing initiatives to protect PG&E from cyber-attacks, and engaging with other stakeholders to continually improve PG&E’s security posture. The department provides governance and direction of initiatives to safeguard PG&E’s cyber-assets, working hand in hand with key partners, as well as technical and engineering experts in PG&E’s lines of business. The department performs projects, vendor, and production systems risk assessments to ensure PG&E deploys and manages technology platforms that meet our security standards and regulatory requirements.  

 

 Position Summary

 The Cybersecurity Risk & Strategy team focuses on identifying risks, helping partners reduce or mitigate risks, developing initiatives to protect PG&E from cyber-attacks, and engaging with other groups to continually improve PG&E’s security posture. As part of the Risk & Strategy Cybersecurity Consulting team, you will concentrate on PG&E efforts related to evaluating cybersecurity projects across the enterprise.

 

You will engage with project teams, and collaborate with other parts of the Cybersecurity group, Information Technology partners, and experts in the lines of business to identify threats, create strategies to better protect technology assets, and deploy technologies and processes to put those strategies into action. You will contribute to strategically manage risk and proactively adapt to evolving threats and business needs. Performing risk assessments, evaluating and assigning security controls, assisting with the development, design, and implementation of security architectures, project security support, and technical experience are all important skill sets for this position.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent experience
  • 6 years of combined IT, critical infrastructure, intelligence, and/or cyber/information security work experience

 

Desired:

  •  Master’s Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Utility industry experience strongly preferred
  •     Cyber/information security management policies, procedures, regulations and governance processes, Information Systems/Network Security, System Security Analysis, Information Assurance Compliance
  •     Risk management techniques, technological trends and developments in cyber/information security, systems/software development, engineering, integration, testing and evaluation and operating systems
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or equivalent
  • Mastery of Cybersecurity best practices and standards (e.g. NIST, ISO, etc.)
  • Mastery of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies
  • Mastery of cloud security concepts, including experience with public cloud (e.g. AWS, Microsoft Azure, etc.) and implementation experience
  • Demonstrated problem analysis and decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate and convey complex IT/OT technical security related concepts to business and technology teams
  • Ability to influence and work with and across all levels within the business

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of regulatory and litigation processes as needed to perform at the job level
  • Knowledge of information security laws, concepts, strategies, computer networking, and cyber security - including topologies, protocol, equipment - as needed to perform at the job level
  • Ability to influence and lead behavior change Competency in making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems
  • Competency in making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
  • Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences

Job Responsibilities 

  • Leads project engagements and technology assessments to understand capabilities of required systems or networks
  • Identifies and recommends cyber strategies for technology development based on stakeholder requirements
  • Develops consulting practice documentation, identifies and recommends process improvement, and provides guidance to other team members
  • Drives security reviews, identifies gaps in security architecture and designs and recommends necessary security controls to be integrated within the development lifecycle
  • Owns and documents the implementation of the security controls and creates auditable evidence of security measures
  • Actively engages with the IT methodology team to recommend and deploy process improvements to ensure that security requirements are incorporated in all technology projects
  • Develops and recommends security controls, identifies key security objectives to maximize software and system security while minimizing disruption to plans and schedules
  • Leads translation of security controls into technical specifications and guidance to stakeholders to ensure common understanding across the stakeholders and enable adequate implementation
  • Actively recommends engineering solutions in collaboration with Cybersecurity Architects and product owners to remediate inherent cyber security risks
  • Leads the collection and analysis of benchmarks and metrics for the department to drive continuous improvement
  • Provides peer review and support for organizational deliverables
